Meet Tyler Drewitz

We recently connected with Tyler Drewitz and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Life wasn’t easy growing up in Northern California. I had to learn to trust and follow my intuition at a young age. Part of what makes me resilient is my life experiences and a big part is my faith. I’m not religious but I do have a personal relationship with my inner voice, which I call God.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I was born and raised in California and lived a modest middle class family life. My parents were divorced at a young age so I split time between the two. Mom was busy working and trying to create a good life for my sis and I so we spent a lot of after school hours with friends. Dad was the kids choir pastor and encouraged us to spend time in church services and events. At the time I preferred Mom’s but now that i’m older I can really appreciate the freedom and expression I got from time at Mom’s as well as the structure and discipline I received from Dad’s. I remember being inspired by performing arts at a young age. I was always singing, dancing, and creating so it was only natural that my curiosity led me to the stage. I put my heart and soul into training and discovering who I was as my own artist. I was lucky to have some amazing teachers/mentors who really cared for me and showed me the way. It wasn’t long before local theatre turned into national tours and LA finally became my home base. I always knew that I would end up here and here is where I got my wings. Even before I ever wanted to perform, I knew that my true passion was to create and uplift others. My dance and performing career helped me gain the knowledge and tools to become the creative director I am today. I am excited to currently be working with multiple studios, non profits, musicians, and artists throughout the greater Los Angeles area. I also own and manage One Stop Shop Entertainment & Events which is a entertainment production company. There are many exciting projects coming up for the artists I work with and I am very grateful to get to be a part of their journey. I strive to be the light that shines for others to be seen.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities I believe have made the most impact on my journey is my community/support system, my perceverance type of attitude towards life, and my strife to learn from anything and everything. My advice is to find a good support system and surround yourself with a like minded community. Keep up with your goals and be persistent with your training, and also, never be too confident or proud to continue learning.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I begin to feel overwhelmed, I actively seek balance. I believe its important to take care of your mind, body and spirit so you’ve got to find balance and harmony within those things. Wether it’s taking a hot yoga class, finding time to read, going on a hike, or spending time with friends, make sure you are feeding your soul! I also set intentions and I am realistic with myself. For example, I will tell myself, “This year I am going to sacrifice my personal time for financial gains”, that way when I am feeling overwhelmed, I can remind myself of my decision to sacrifice my time and remind myself that it’s only temporary.
