Meet Tyler Hales

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyler Hales a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tyler, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Growing up, my grandpa was one of my hero’s. He was someone that everyone always loved and he was very successful at anything he did. I learned a lot from him throughout the years but one thing always stuck with me that he said. “Always be the hardest working person in the room”. I have always tried to live up to that. In most situations I can’t control being the smartest or moth athletic but I can control how hard I work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a cosmetic dentist that specializes in smile makeovers and veneers. I use to do all general dentistry and realized I could be good at lots of things or the best at one thing and decided to put all my focus on smile makeovers. This process has formed one step at a time. I began my own brand Hales Aesthetics and wanted it to represent something natural and real. Next I found the best ceramists with the same vision to give me the quality of veneers I expect. For me, I love what I get to do and help people feel confident through a new smile. It is life changing for most people. Each smile is unique to that individual and it allows me to use my artistic skills to create that for each person.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One, I was never afraid to ask questions. I think education is one of the biggest values out there and we can learn something new everyday from anyone. Two, passion. If you don’t like what your doing, you will never truly excel to be the best. I have always loved working with my hands and that’s why dentistry is such a great fit. Now that I do only cosmetic’s I get to use my artistic side and it’s about getting better each and every day. My passion is what drives me to get up early and stay late for the better of my patients. Three, my mentors. I was luckily enough to find amazing mentors that have helped me through the years to get me to who I am today. They have always supported me and helped me grow to a level I never could have imagined. We can’t do it alone and we can do it faster when we ask for help from others.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
I read this book called essentialism, which is about the discipline pursuit of less. There was a time when I was feeling overwhelmed and I was just taking more and more on my plate. I was getting close to a breaking point until I read this book. I realized that I could say no to things that weren’t focused on my overall goal. I didn’t need to feel bad and alway say yes just to please people. If we truly decide to make a change and only do the things that has our main focus inline we are able to make bigger impacts in our own lives but those around us as well. The next day after reading this book, I went to my partner and told him I am no longer doing implants. It was my first step to only doing smile makeovers and veneers and now I am one of the most sought after dentist for veneers in the nation.
