Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Kinch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyler, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I pride myself on work ethic and grinding in everything I do. I cannot say there was one specific event or person that developed this for me.. All four of my grandparents lived no more than five minutes from my house. My first grandparent to pass away occurred when I was 22, which meant I had 6 loving, supportive “parents” my entire childhood. My one grandpa was the superintendent of our high school, while my other grandpa was the one in charge of building it. My parents were hard working individuals in both of their jobs. My mother was a principle and my father was a behavioral psychologist. I had two older brothers who both excelled in school and sports. One went on to be a Lawyer and the other an Anesthesiologist. I had a responsibility to my family and myself to continue to strive and succeed.. The way I learned how to do that was through work ethic. I was not as smart as my brothers but I planned to outwork them. There might have been a bit of a competitive atmosphere in our household ha. At the end of the day I hit the genetic lottery. I was born into a supportive and successful family. I had a personal responsibility to myself to not squander that gift. I learned all I had to do was show up, put in the work, and grind in everything I do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
While growing up I always has a passion or desire to help others. I thought about becoming a doctor, doing mission work, or becoming an educator. As stated earlier many of my coaches and family inspired me throughout my childhood to change the lives of others. I have always had a natural pull to do this in my life. I use physical therapy as a medium to accomplish this goal. I know how terrible I feel when sick or hurt. I help remove pain and physical limitations so people can perform and live their life the way they desire. During this time of care, we build trust and a deep relationship, where I have the opportunity to help inspire others. I have the opportunity learn how someone helps others and how living a healthier life can improve that effort. After about four years in corporate healthcare, I was not able to have this connection or experience with my clients. So I started Revolution Rehab in an effort to build those relationships and connections. I love being a physical therapist and enjoy educating people about their body. However, what I truly love to do is connect with people and inspire them to make the world around them better.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say humility, communication, and inspiring a shared vision.
Nothing will be accomplished on your own. Many of the organizations I have started or been a part of took a team. Instead of me trying to learn or do it all I would always try and assemble a team. Why spend time on something when I could find an expert in that area to partner with. Thus, having the humility to know when to ask for help. Being able to communicate with those individuals in a positive manner. And finally having a vision that you can inspire them to join is the biggest part. If they don’t see the value in your vision then their heart will not be in the same place. So being able to inspire them to join on and give the same amount of effort as you is huge.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Coincidentally, my grit and resiliency is being challenged right now. I just finished my first year in business and it is not for the faint of heart. It has been a challenge and there has been a lot of increased stress and frustration over the last year. In addition I am going against the mold. There is a new movement in the healthcare world. Many providers are switching to private pay models because of the frustration and constraints from the system and insurance companies. The focus is no longer on the patient and more on the bottom line. This business in away is challenging the process and that takes additional education and effort to show people how there are better ways to see success in health & wellness. This new model has allowed me to make those connections and provide the quality of care that my clients deserve. So no matter how much struggle or frustration I experience, I would not change the current process. At the end of the day if I don’t quit, I won’t lose. I will succeed at starting a business and am excited for what is to come..
