Meet Tyler Logan

We were lucky to catch up with Tyler Logan recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tyler, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
“Purpose” is an interesting thing to try and chase after…it’s the ideal version of yourself that always seems a little too far off, or the “you” that the imagine you are always portraying to the rest of the world, trying to not feel like an imposter…. For me, it wasn’t that I necessarily found my “purpose”, it’s more that I found my “CALLING” in life! I’ve been in 2 industries/arenas of work for the past 20 years: Music & Ministry.

When I was 12 years old, my dad forced me how to play bass one fateful evening, and I fell in love with music INSTANTLY! It consumed my thoughts, my actions, my dreams…it was almost like an obsession…but deeper than that…it felt NATURAL to me. I didn’t understand at the time just how quickly I could hear all the notes being played and match them instantly. All I wanted to do was learn more instruments and be in a band and write cool music. And 20 years later, that still guides many aspects of my life! I now get to help and guide the people 20 years younger than me, helping them on the incredible journey of music and how awesome and NECESSARY it is in this world!

Also, a s kid growing up in church in the South, the last thing I wanted to be was a preacher, or even work for a church…but when I was 19, I had a very real and clear impression from the Lord while I was in prayer, seeking His will for my life, that He had indeed called me to go serve people, showing them the GOOD NEWS of the gospel! I quit my first year of college in Nashville, where I was going to school for a “Recording Engineering” degree, and moved to Los Angeles to be a part of a real awesome ministry at the LA Dream Center. I was in the streets, helping anyone and everyone that needed it!

I went on to actually working in the Christian Music Industry where both of these worlds collided! It’s been an incredible journey! Toured 30+ countries, recorded on on Grammy-winning albums and helped Worship teams all around the world….I fell like I’m officially walking in my purpose!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So when it comes to my own life, I’m super excited about playing guitar on a bunch of friend’s albums! On normal days I work an awesome organization, Multitracks.com, producing content and products to help equip over half a million churches all around the world with backing tracks for their Worship Services. This is a huge joy in my life!

Also, a few of albums I will be tracking on this year include my Austin-based blues-hero friend, Jo James; mis hermanos en Cristo up in Dallas, Miel San Marcos! Some albums I’ve already tracked on this year include my local church, Celebration Music and one of my best friends in the world based out of the Space Coast in Florida, Brad Alden!

Another really cool movement I’m partnered with here in Austin is the Worship Society. It’s a diverse, authentic and genuine movement for all the people that serve week-in/week-out at their local churches across the city, yet find themselves in a place where there’s a need for deeper creativity/expressive/artistic moments outside of the Sunday morning experience. It’s an amazing movement and it’s bringing a lot of healing to a community that often feels overlooked and undervalued.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
KNOW THE BIBLE! It’s the MAIN THING that will guide you, instruct you, encourage you and enlighten your ENTIRE LIFE!

DREAM BIG! When you have a passion as big as “touring the world playing music” you can’t settle for never pursuing that dream! And celebrate all the small shows, songs, albums, voice memo’s, promo reels, etc in the meantime!

HAVE GRACE FOR YOURSELF AND FOR OTHERS! You’re not gonna get everything right…and some people are gonna really let you down…don’t let these 2 things ruin the trajectory of the dream that God has put in your heart! Lead with grace and you’ll always be content with the outcome

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Go to God! He brings us PEACE in the midst fof the overwhelming storm! The Apostle Paul encourages the Philipian church with this: “Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, keep your thoughts on whatever is right or deserves praise: things that are true, honorable, fair, pure, acceptable, or commendable. Practice what you’ve learned and received from me, what you heard and saw me do. Then the God who gives this peace will be with you.
Philippians 4:6-9”

The Bible says in Psalm 3:3 that the “Lord is a shield about me, my glory and the LIFTER OF MY HEAD!”

When we go to God, he lifts our head from the place of depression/defeat and into a new perspective of Rest and Victory!
