We recently connected with Tyler (Tylerissoepic) and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I’m very grateful because I was able to discover my purpose at a very young age. As a kid, I was always drawing, making music, creating art, and trying to expand on my creativity as much as possible. I’m from Atlanta Georgia which is considered to be the rap capital of the world, so I was always able to see firsthand that my dreams were possible to accomplish after watching so much popular talent come up from the same city as me and make a name for themselves. I grew up listening to a lot of music, most notably artists like Kanye West and Lil Wayne who I would say are very creative. From Lil Wayne and Kanye West’s references in their videos and music to their one of one punchlines, I think I gained a lot of inspiration from them and many other artists which helped me get an idea of how to mix my creativity into the music industry. I was always drawn to art and music & had the same goals in mind, I just had to achieve them by bringing my ideas to life. I think it can be hard for a lot of people to find their purpose because people try to rush things or follow the same path as other people. Be yourself, chase your dreams, and don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t achieve
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Tyler, known online under the name “Tylerissoepic”. I’m a multi-platinum graphic designer and have been designing professionally for around 7+ years now. I taught myself how to design early on and mostly specialize in designing cover art for musicians. I’ve experimented with producing beats, videography, photography, mixing and mastering music and many other fields of work within the music industry but the main thing that stuck with me was graphic design. Some of my most notable pieces of work that you may recognize would be my cover art designs for “Kodak Black’s – Kutthroat Bill: Vol. 1” or “Smokepurpp’s – Florida Jit” album along with many single covers, tracklist designs and album covers for artists like Lil Yachty, Comethazine, Kodak Black, Lil Mosey, YBN Nahmir, Yo Gotti, 2 Chainz, Rich The Kid, BabyTron, Rick Ross, Smokepurpp and hundreds of others. I initially started off by posting my artwork on social media around 2017. After some time I started gaining recognition from big names in the music industry, label executives and artists. I started developing connections and friendships with many artists through social media which lead to some of my first big cover art placements with artists like Sad Frosty, Soulja Boy, DC The Don, Trill Sammy, 24kGoldn and many others. After landing my first few big placements I knew it was my calling. Since then I’ve been able to experience a lot of crazy events and concerts in person and been in rooms I never thought I’d be in. I’ve gotten to see my cover art on Gold & Platinum plaques, Billboard charts, Apple Music & Spotify charts, billboards in Times Square, NBA 2K24 along with seeing the songs I’ve designed for placed in Fortnite and the TV series Euphoria. I’m very grateful to be in the position I’m in and am excited to land some more big placements, achieve some more of my goals and to see what’s in store for the coming years
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the most impactful qualities in my opinion are to be persistent, confident in your craft, determined and to think outside the box when it comes to creativity. Do something nobody has ever done and try your best to bring your ideas to life. Something that I think helped benefit me in my journey was my attention to detail. I’m always paying attention to the current state of music and pop culture along with what inspires the artists inside of the industry. People usually think musicians are just inspired by other musicians when in reality you have to pay attention to the art, movies, music, public figures, and subcultures that inspire the artist to get a better understanding of their persona for the art that you’re creating for them. The best advice I can give to anybody early in their journey would be to try your best to not get discouraged and never give up on your dreams. There will always be obstacles in your way, and sometimes those obstacles feel impossible to overcome but you can overcome anything you set your mind to, the only thing that holds you back is yourself. You have to keep pushing no matter what and try your best to be optimistic. Nothing worth having comes easy, you have to stay persistent and keep going.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I would say to keep a balance and focus on both ends. I think the more things you can learn the better. If you never focus on areas you aren’t as strong in then you will never reach your full potential. Use your strengths to your best ability and slowly try to improve in areas that you’re weaker in and incorporate them into your craft. If you master your weaknesses along with your strong-suits then you’ll be unstoppable, but there will always be room for growth in different areas.
