We recently connected with Tyrone Void and have shared our conversation below.
Tyrone, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’ve never actually thought of anything I do as resilience. I’ve just had a habit of putting my head down and going forward. I’d like to say that I’ve never quite before, but I have. One of my biggest life regrets, but throughout the course of my life, I’ve always come out better when I just kept going. I’ve learned that many fears are a reaction to the unknown but aren’t real. I’ve also learned that most hinderances are a chance to possibly pivot off of what could have been a wrong course. Ultimately, I just believe that failure, at least in my experience, only occurs when I quit. So I keep going.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My life has been about service for the majority of my life. I though my life would be dedicate to athletics but it has become much more. Since I stopped playing basketball, I have spent time as a writer, educator, coach, and now Leadership trainer. As a writer, I have written feature stories for various publications, including Boardroom. My most proud accomplishments are the children’s books I have published. I have published four them with many more to come. I make content surrounding fatherhood, my greatest passion. My brand, Void Ventures, leans into the idea of free flowing creativity and allowing your mind to wander into the greatness assigned to you.
I am working to relaunch my sit down interview series formerly called The Fatherhood Show, but will be renamed as “Man, Thanks for Sharing” centered around fathers telling their stories. That will return in summer 2025. I am also planning to publish three more books this year, including my first book with a female lead.
I live my life with purpose, and am uncomfortable when I feel misaligned. My hope is for each individual person to step into their personal greatness and not be limited by any fear of perceived failure.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three attributes I would say had the most impact on any level of success I’ve ever had was vision, work ethic, and humility.
Vision because in order to do anything, you have to see yourself there first. Knowing an end goal is crucial to development.
Work ethic because it will be hard. Even things that come naturally present a level of difficulty once they transition to an endeavor. Sports taught me that the higher the level and larger the goal, the more work that needs to be done.
Humility allows for the work to be honored and gratitude to be present.
The advice I would give any person that is early on their journey is that failure is optional. There will be bumps, and you will feel every emotion. However, the only way to fail is to quit.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for partner with people that I can add value to as well. I’d love to collaborate with people who can spread the word about my books, speaking endeavors, and partner with fathers, both current and aspiring, that are willing to sit and discuss their journeys with me.
