We recently connected with Tyshiana Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyshiana, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
There was a time when my confidence and self-esteem were at their lowest. I had no boundaries and didn’t yet realize that my presence was a gift, and that I was responsible for who had access to it.
During my junior year of college, I hit a breaking point. I was tired of always feeling like I was left with the short end of the stick.
That’s when I turned inward. I started journaling, listening to podcasts, and eventually sought support from a therapist to unpack the “stories” I was telling myself. Stories like: “You’re not beautiful” or “No one wants to be around you because you’re annoying.”
The truth was, I had never given myself the chance to discover who I really was, or to get comfortable with the fact that not everyone would like me, and that was okay. Once I accepted that I wasn’t everyone’s “cup of tea” and realized that it was my job to pour into myself first, I unlocked a new level of confidence. That shift is what inspired me to start my blog, Love Every Flaw, as a way to share my journey and remind others that true confidence comes from embracing your authentic self. What began as my personal outlet eventually grew into L.E.F. Beauty, a brand that empowers others to do the same.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am the Founder (and chief-everything-officer) of L.E.F. Beauty, a wellness brand rooted in the belief that self-care is more than skin-deep. It’s a tool to help you show up authentically in the world and build communities that truly align with you.
L.E.F. Beauty started from my blog Love Every Flaw, where I shared my personal journey of learning to embrace who I am, flaws and all. What began as words on a screen has now grown into a brand that blends wellness, community, and beauty.
We bring this vision to life in three ways. First, through education. We use emotional intelligence as a foundation, helping people become more self-aware, recognize how experiences impact them, and learn how to manage relationships with themselves and others in healthy, authentic ways. We share tips and insights on our Instagram and YouTube channels for anyone looking to strengthen these skills.
Second, through community. We create experiences that bring people together in meaningful ways. This past June we hosted a rooftop yoga session and mixer that gave people a chance to reset and connect. This fall, we’re planning a Game Night and we will continue to offer events that feel fun, supportive, and memorable.
And third, through beauty. We offer products that complement how good you feel on the inside. Right now, we’re transitioning into a new formula that I’m so excited about. To mark the occasion, we’re letting our OG glosses go with a 50 percent off sale that’s automatically applied.
What excites me most about L.E.F. Beauty is that it’s not just about products or events. It’s about creating spaces where people can feel seen, confident, and connected.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It has been about seven years since my “aha” moment that inspired me to start my business, and there are three things that have had the biggest impact on my journey.
The first was practicing emotional intelligence. I learned how to process and validate my emotions instead of ignoring them. Giving myself the space to figure out what was best for me, not just what would make others happy, was a game changer. This practice also became a foundation for L.E.F. Beauty, since emotional intelligence is at the core of how we teach people to show up authentically.
The second was investing in self-care. Back in college, I did not always have the money to get my hair or nails done, but that did not stop me from pouring into myself. I turned to DIY products and YouTube tutorials to take care of my appearance and spirit. Now, in my late twenties, I have built room in my budget to invest in professional services or purchase special items that make me feel good. It is also what inspired our beauty products like the lip glosses, because sometimes a small thing can make you feel like the best version of yourself.
The third was learning when to leave relationships. I used to let the weight of history dictate whether I stayed connected to people, even when those relationships were not healthy. Now I look at whether someone respects my boundaries and how they respond when I voice them. If they cannot respect me, I have learned it is okay to walk away.
For anyone just starting out, I would say this: emotional intelligence is a process, and it will look different for everyone, so do not judge yourself or expect perfection. With self-care, do not compare yours to anyone else’s. Your financial situation, lifestyle, or interests may call for something different, and that is okay. And when it comes to relationships, remember it is not your job to teach people how to respect you. It is your job to acknowledge when they do not and walk away, no matter how hard it feels. Making those choices opens the door for the right people and community to come into your life.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
L.E.F. Beauty is always looking to build with our community. We love partnering with other entrepreneurs, whether they are influencers or businesses, as long as they align with our mission of promoting self-care, confidence, and authentic connection.
This November, we are planning a giveback initiative for young women who are experiencing hard times. Our goal is to collect essential self-care items such as toiletries, tampons, and simple “feel good” products like lip gloss or a bracelet that can help them feel special and cared for, while also meeting their basic needs.
If you are interested in partnering with us for this initiative or future projects, we would love to connect. Please reach out to us at [email protected].
