Meet Tyson Hennis

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tyson Hennis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tyson, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

I would have to say my Faith. There is a bible verse that tells us it’s better to give than it is to receive. I’ve found this to be true. When I give with no expectations and an audience of one (God) I feel fulfilled in a powerful way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I cut hair- Haha, really self explanatory. I don’t look at it as a simple haircut, it’s an opportunity to love on people as they are. I pray for all of my clients (yes, all of them) and as the Lord leads I speak into them. Sometimes this is simply listening and being an ear, other times it’s giving hope, speaking life. Seraphim in Hebrew means “The burning ones” and that’s the mission. To spread is love and holiness to the best of my ability, while giving a fresh cut. Come out looking good and feeling good.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Character is everything. You can be the best barber/stylist in the lord, but who you are and how you treat your clients is so important. Haircuts last a month, wisdom last a lifetime. Also, I would have to say consistency and patience. Show up on time with a good attitude (I know we not perfect) and show patience. Not every person is easy to deal with, but they’re deserving of love (and they’re paying a service)

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

I pray and be still. I feel as people we can be very reactive to our circumstances. When we slow down, pray and process what’s at hand it gives us an opportunity to connect with God and get our mind right before making a rash decision. Sometimes this looks like leaving the room, fresh air, calling a loved one. Take that moment to get your mind right.
