Meet Tywan Bell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tywan Bell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Tywan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

When it comes to finding my purpose, it’s been a journey. Even though I’ve found much success in what I am doing right now, this is only a fraction of who I am. If I did have to give any specified reason to how I found my purpose is simply me doing what I love the most, and that’s music. I’ve been creating my whole life and once I was finally developed and became cognizant of who I am, that’s when I found the blueprint to my personal growth. And I don’t have to question it anymore, more so, I’m just enjoying the process of developing into the man I’m suppose to be.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Tywan Bell; Also known as “M.I.T” or “MadeInTaiwon” for my early supporters.

I was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and currently reside here as well. My upbringing has been very interesting I must say. I grew up in the church living off of Sugar Creek for the first 8-9 years of my life until my parents separated. For about 6-7 months in between that time frame, I would move a couple of times until I settled on the westside at the end of ‘08. Hopefully I got the year right lol.

After growing up on the westside with my mom in an interracial marriage, it was a new experience that I never knew existed. To summarize this story, I was basically bullied for most of my life from the 5th grade to the 12th grade due to reasons that I still can’t explain today. However that was my paradigm for the most part. Now in the 5th grade though, I was introduced to rapping over instrumentals for the 1st time, so I didn’t know what to expect, but it was my genesis for who I am today. And from that day moving forward I started listening closely to music.

Now to fast forward to the 7th-8th grade, I was a track runner doing the 200, 400, 800, 1600 and high jump. I didn’t get the opportunity to hone in on my skills the way I wanted to until I got the 9th grade when I mainly focused on the 200 & 400. After the 9th grade season, I did try my 10th grade, but my academics wasn’t up to par, so I missed the season. Also during my 9th grade year is when I was introduced to FL Studio 10 from my boy CAVBeatz. Then the 10th to 11th grade summer is when I dipped into dropping freestyles on SoundCloud with my other Boy TezeyD.

After that summer I stopped making music for a couple years until 2017. In 2017 that’s when I stepped back into making music after freestyling in the car. In 2018 , I dropped my 1st EP and everything after that is history. I’ve made an abundance amount of music since then while doing all the beat production, all the audio production and most of the videography. I also started my Record Label “Nameless Movement Records” in the 2019 and I’ve been building my sound since then. And I could go into more details, but I think this’ll do.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

If I could say 3 of my qualities, skills, or knowledge I’ve received, I would say is 1, I’m very open minded and optimistic to change. I like to look at failures as an opportunity to grow, so if it’s something that I’m seeking or interested in, I know that a loss is only a lesson in disguise. 2, doing what you love the most. I know this is very broad however it’s conducive in finding your purpose. To be honest, it’s not a easy thing to do, definitely when it’s a noisy world we live in, however, take time to yourself and search through what makes you the most happy and watch how it changes your life.

And 3, cherish the ones you love the most. Time is precious and we take it for granted until we realize what we loss. I know it’s so much money out here that can be made and different life opportunities, but never forget to slow down for once. You can never get back the times and moments you could have had with the ones you love most. To put it in perspective, my Uncle passed in 2022, and after that year, I started taking family more seriously than I have my entire life. So spend time with family to disconnect from the things that clutter our minds.

And if it’s any advice I would like to give is to always love yourself. I know we all have some form of trauma, which can be emotional, mental or physical. However, you are responsible for your health internally and externally. You don’t need to be 30 to understand this, you can be 14 or 15, it’s mainly about dealing with your issues and situation as soon as possible to give you the best opportunity at freeing yourself from things that will show up later in life. So take time to just sit and free your mind so you can get realigned within.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I really love books in general because it always provides a different perspective outside of our own world. If I could name couple of books, it will be “the laws of human nature”, “the emotional blueprint”, and “the power of sound”. These books really have shaped my perspective on life more than I expected and I’m grateful for God giving them the knowledge to share with people like me. And if I can give a piece of wisdom which I can say I received from Angela Davis is “Accept what you can’t change and change what you can’t accept”. That quote in itself speaks volume and I love it.
