We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Umashree Kumaresh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Umashree, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
My journey into yoga and wellness began with a deep personal need—to find balance, heal from within, and reconnect with my body. During a particularly stressful period, I turned to yoga, and the transformative effects were immediate. Yoga became a sanctuary, offering me clarity, peace, and a profound sense of grounding. It was then that I knew I wanted to share this gift with others.
As I trained to become a yoga instructor, I discovered that the practice wasn’t just about mastering physical postures—it was about fostering mindfulness, connection, and healing on a deeper level. However, as I began teaching, I realized that people in general faced challenges beyond the yoga mat—issues with stress management, nutrition, and cultivating healthy habits in their everyday lives. I understood then that true wellness is not confined to the physical body; it is a holistic integration of mind, body, and spirit.
This realization led me to pursue certification as a health and wellness coach. I wanted to offer a more comprehensive approach to well-being, one that would allow me to guide my clients beyond the yoga practice and into a fuller, more balanced life. Yet, even as I transitioned into coaching, I found myself grappling with imposter syndrome. Despite years of training and personal growth, I questioned my worth and felt unsure of my ability to truly guide others.
But as I continued to grow, I learned that my value as a coach wasn’t defined by perfection. It was in my authenticity, my compassion, and my own journey of growth. I recognized that I didn’t need to have all the answers—I just needed to show up, be present, and empower others to discover their own path.
Today, my work as both a yoga instructor and a health coach is a fusion of everything I’ve learned on my own journey. I approach wellness holistically, helping my clients nurture not only their bodies but their minds and spirits as well. It’s about empowering them to take ownership of their well-being, to cultivate self-compassion, and to embrace a lifestyle of balance and mindfulness.
Wellness is not a destination but a continuous journey, and I am deeply grateful to walk alongside my clients as they navigate their own paths to healing and vitality.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For years, I lived in the fast lane of the corporate tech world—long hours, constant pressure, and a never-ending to-do list that always seemed to grow faster than I could tackle it. My life was a blur of deadlines and stress, and somewhere along the way, I lost touch with myself. I was burned out, physically drained, and mentally foggy. Sure, I was “successful,” but none of it felt meaningful.
Then came yoga. At first, it was just a way to stretch out the tight muscles from hours of sitting at a desk. But soon, I realized it was doing so much more—it was clearing my mind, calming my nerves, and helping me reconnect with my body in a way I hadn’t in years. Yoga became my sanctuary, a place to find stillness in the chaos, and it wasn’t long before I decided I wanted to help others find that peace, too. So, I swapped my corporate suit for a yoga mat and became a certified yoga instructor.
But even though teaching yoga felt right, I wanted more. I knew wellness was about more than just yoga poses—it’s about how we move through life, manage stress, fuel our bodies, and take care of our minds. That’s when I dove into health and wellness coaching, blending the power of yoga with practical tools to help people live healthier, more balanced lives.
Now, I work with clients to break free from stress, build healthy habits, and develop the mindset they need to thrive in today’s busy world. Whether we’re talking about fitness, nutrition, or just taking a moment to breathe and reset, my goal is to help people feel good—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. My journey wasn’t just about changing careers; it was about reclaiming my sense of peace and purpose. And now, I get to guide others on their own journeys to wellness—one stretch, breath, and positive habit at a time.
Right now, I’m offering a free wellness consultation where we’ll dive into where you are, where you want to be, and how you can get there. It’s a chance for you to get clear on your goals and start building a plan that works for your life.
My journey wasn’t just about changing careers—it was about reclaiming my sense of peace and purpose. And now, I get to guide others on their own journeys to wellness—one stretch, breath, and positive habit at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, several key qualities have helped me navigate uncertainty and grow into the confident coach I am today.
Resilience has been at the core of my transformation—whether it was leaving a stressful corporate job or transitioning to health coaching, each challenge helped me grow stronger. Self-awareness was essential, too. I knew early on that the path I was on wasn’t fulfilling, and trusting my instincts gave me the courage to change direction.
Along the way, I learned to be adaptable, embracing new environments and skills. It took courage to leave behind the familiar, but I chose to trust the unknown. Empathy helps me connect deeply with my clients and guide them with compassion, while my passion for wellness fuels my work every day.
I also value continuous learning, which keeps me growing both personally and professionally, and patience, which has taught me to trust that meaningful change takes time. Above all, staying authentic in my approach and maintaining a strong problem-solving mindset has helped me build confidence in navigating any obstacle.
These qualities—resilience, self-awareness, adaptability, courage, empathy, passion, patience, authenticity, and problem-solving—have not only helped me through uncertainty but have also shaped my ability to guide others on their wellness journeys.
