Meet Urmi Hossain

We recently connected with Urmi Hossain and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Urmi , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is the capacity to bounce back from adversity, setbacks, or failures. It involves emotional strength, adaptability, and the ability to learn and grow from difficult experiences.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Confidence is developed when you push yourself to be better than yesterday. When I face a challenge, I don’t run away from it. I face it and try to solve it, no matter how long it takes or how difficult it can be. It is only through this process that I become knowledgeable and confident in myself. The more knowledgeable you become, the greater confidence you build in yourself, and this is reflected in the way you speak and present yourself every day. Confidence within its limits is the key to life success.

2. I love giving back to the community. There is nothing more exciting than spreading generosity in people’s lives, whether this is done with my time or through donations. I love making an impact and being a heroine. My favorite volunteering activity is empowering young talents who want to study and work in finance, as well as empowering women in building their careers. I am actively engaged with the organization Women in Leadership, based in Canada, and I am part of the Victoria Chapter. We have an upcoming event, a national celebration of women in the community, filled with presentations and networking opportunities. This year, we are celebrating it on May 29th, 2024.

3. I am all about being a very diversified and well-rounded person. As we say in finance, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” – the same concept applies to anything we do in our daily lives. You never know what may come in handy in the future, and with the world being so dynamic, the chances of finding a job that requires a certain skill are pretty high. So instead of focusing solely on improving what you already know, strive to enhance your weaknesses and transform them into strengths!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Discipline, Determination and Resilience

Discipline: Discipline is the ability to stay focused and committed to achieving your goals, even when faced with distractions or challenges. It involves self-control and consistency.

Determination: Determination is the unwavering resolve to pursue your objectives despite obstacles or setbacks. It encompasses persistence, perseverance, and a strong sense of purpose.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Resilience: Resilience is the capacity to bounce back from adversity, setbacks, or failures. It involves emotional strength, adaptability, and the ability to learn and grow from difficult experiences.
