Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ursula with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic comes from my upbringing and personal values. Growing up with an immigrant household, I witnessed firsthand the importance of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. My parents taught me that success comes from showing up, putting in the effort, and always striving to do better.
I’ve carried those lessons with me, and they continue to drive me today. I’m deeply committed to giving my family the best life possible, which means leading by example and pouring my energy into work that makes a difference.
Equally important are the needs of my clients. I understand how life-changing pregnancy, and childbirth experiences can be, and I’m honored to walk alongside families during these critical moments. Their trust in me fuels my passion to deliver exceptional care and support, ensuring they feel empowered and confident every step of the way.

Thank you so much for this opportunity to share the work we do at Birth You Desire. I’m Ursula, the founder of Birth You Desire, and I’m proud to bring over 26 years of experience to families navigating fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery.
Birth You Desire operates with a deeply rooted commitment to providing personalized, evidence-based care to our clients. We’ve built a reputation for empowering families through education, support, and advocacy. We are honored to have served more than 5,000 families to date.
Our award-winning team of highly trained doulas and educators are based in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. In 2024, we expanded to include Phoenix Arizona. This expansion reflects our dedication to meeting families where they are and ensuring they have access to exceptional care throughout their journey. We also offer virtual and traveling doulas to support families no matter where they are nationally or internationally. With a combined 250 years of experience, our team offers unmatched expertise, making us a trusted resource in every stage of fertility and birth.
What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to help families feel confident and empowered during such a transformative time. We don’t just provide services—we build relationships and create lasting impacts for parents and children. We focus on education, emotional support, and individualized care plans, we meet the clients where they are and get them to where they want to be.
I draw inspiration from my immigrant father, whose work ethic and dedication to family instilled in me the importance of hard work and compassion. Those values continue to shape my approach to this business. At Birth You Desire, we believe every family deserves the highest level of care and support as it grows and thrives.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

That’s a great question! I’d say the three most impactful areas were expertise and continuous learning, empathy and active listening, and adaptability paired with business acumen.

Birth You Desire was built on a foundation of deep knowledge in fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. With over 26 years of experience and having supported more than 5,000 families, ongoing education and evidence-based practices have been essential for maintaining trust and credibility with both our clients and their providers.

Understanding the emotional and physical needs of families is at the heart of what we do. Building trust through compassion and active listening has been critical for creating meaningful relationships and referrals. We practice empathy by putting ourselves in our client’s shoes and tailoring our support to their unique journeys. I believe this is why we are an award-winning practice. Our team continues to invest their knowledge and skills by investing in advanced certifications and training. We stay current with the latest research, evidence-based practices, tools, and techniques to better serve our clients. It’s also incredibly helpful to network with other professionals to share insights and learn from one another.

Also, running a business comes with challenges, whether it’s marketing, branding, or client retention. Being adaptable and organized has been key to navigating those hurdles. We’ve thrived by evolving with industry trends and staying in tune with what our clients need. We developed basic business skills like marketing, financial planning, and customer service early on. Embracing technology to streamline operations but most importantly, be willing to pivot when faced with challenges and continuously improve your processes.

For anyone starting their journey, focus on building a strong foundation of knowledge, connecting authentically with clients, and staying flexible as your business grows. Passion, persistence, and a willingness to learn will guide you to success—just like they did for Birth You Desire!
