We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ute Bivona. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ute below.
Hi Ute, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I have drawn and painted my whole life long. Painting has always been my way to create a better, colorful world when things went wrong. But I was scared to be an artist so I first chose financial security and studied Communicational Design and started as a Designer and Illustrator for textbook publishers and layouter for state authorities. But to be sincere – it ruined my creativity because it didn’t give room for artistic freedom.
While working as executive in an international company for years which had nothing to do with creativity I rediscovered painting as a way of balancing my work and my inner needs, a type of healing myself. I discovered that people suddenly wanted to buy my artworks so painting became more and more important to me.
I was torn between financial security in my daytime job and my “calling”, my art that gave me strength and self-confidence. This ordeal didn’t go well for long so I broke down completely in a serious burnout. I couldn’t get out of bed, couldn’t move, every little movement took an incredible amount of time and energy. To go out made me panic and was a nearly impossible challenge. It was very clear that I had to decide which path I wanted to go.
I decided to quit my day job and become a full time artist.
I never regretted my step into entrepreneurship since then and I try to spend the same happiness, healing moments and joy with my artworks to my collectors as I find it in creating my art.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As a full time artist, I am always looking for the next opportunity to express my everyday experiences in my art. For over 15 years I have built up a renowned name in the art scene and am also receiving more and more recognition worldwide, e.g. in USA, Canada, Japan, etc.
My approach and my work are constantly evolving and I am constantly refining my personal style.
My intention behind my art is to create beauty, joy in rebuilding my inner pictures of nature, often flowers, that I am totally attached to onto the canvas. I want the viewer to have access to the wonderful feelings of happiness, freedom, healing that I feel when painting.
My strong inner connection to nature and the environment heals me, gives me strength and inspires me every day and I would like to express my gratitude for our wonderful world in my works.
I would love to spread my gratitude and joy all over the world.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First, I would say that you have to listen to your inner voice. Create what you want and how it seems right to you. Don’t listen too much to your inner critics – simply create – every day!
Second, be part of a community of artists, talk, don’t be shy to show up with your work and your voice. A strong “tribe” gives so much! You can get so much support and know-how and learn so much out of it and make new wonderful friends either. I have been lucky to connect with many US artists and artists all around the world and it helped and supported me a lot!
Third, get out of your comfort zone, grow, thrive, get a strong mindset and try to expand your inner voice and your artistic signature! It’s only by trial and error that we learn to become the best version of ourselves – as an artist AND a human being.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
As I am mostly working on large canvases my paintings are for homes with wide rooms and walls. I would love to cooperate with high-end interior designers offering them a discounted trade price to land my art in the right homes.
I have already had some projects of architectural art so my expertise in this section has grown, too.
As my process is complex and elaborate with so many time-consuming layers and effort and my worldwide recognition constantly rises and I would love to expand my work even more.
