We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Uyanga Enkhsaikhan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Uyanga, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
In my my early 20s, I faced a period where everything seemed to be falling apart. Challenges and heartbreaks were piling up, and I felt overwhelmed by it all. One night, feeling lost and in tears, I decided to walk to the shore. It was a long walk, about an hour, but I wasn’t thinking rationally—I just needed to be somewhere that made sense to me.
When I finally reached the beach, it was the middle of the night. I sat down on the cool sand, my face still wet with tears, and looked out at the vast, dark ocean. The sky above was dotted with stars, their light shimmering on the water’s surface.
Sitting there, I felt a profound sense of connection to something greater than my problems. The ocean, vast and endless, seemed to whisper that my struggles, no matter how overwhelming, were just a small part of a much larger picture. The sound of the waves was soothing, reminding me that life, like the ocean, has its highs and lows. Every wave that crashed and retreated was a reminder that challenges come and go, but life continues.
The sky, with its endless twinkling stars, filled me with a sense of hope. Each star seemed to be a promise that there’s always light, even in the darkest times. It was then that I realized my problems, while significant, were not the end of the world. There was still so much beauty and possibility in the world waiting to be discovered.
From that night on, the ocean and the sky became symbols of my strength, resilience and hope. Whenever life feels too heavy, I return to the beach. I let the vastness of the ocean and the endless sky remind me that I am part of something much greater, and no matter how rough the waters may get, there’s always fresh start at the horizon.
My optimism comes from that night on the beach. It’s a powerful reminder that as long as we and our loved ones are healthy and alive, any problem can be solved and that no matter how tough things get, there’s always light and beauty to be found if we just take a moment to look beyond our immediate struggles.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Three years ago, I discovered the joy of dance, and it has truly transformed my life. This newfound passion inspired my mission to share the benefits of dance with the world. I believe that everyone should experience the joy of dance or movement, as it offers profound physical and mental benefits.
Currently, I’m in the process of developing a dance fitness program and a dance-related card game/learning method, which will be revealed soon. These projects are designed to make dance accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their experience level.
This year I decided to become a belly dancer and I’m documenting my journey on my new blog and YouTube channel. Through these platforms, I share my experiences, tips, and insights, encouraging others to explore dance and movement. My goal is to inspire people to realize that it’s never too late to start something new. I will be 47 at the end of this year.
I also follow a unique program I developed called the 77 Days Challenge. This program focuses on maintaining consistency in pursuing goals, 77 days at a time. It’s a method that has helped me stay on track and I’m passionate about sharing it with others. There’s a story behind the 77 Days Challenge, but I’ll leave it for another article.
Additionally, I create custom t-shirts and apparel, primarily inspired by dance. This creative outlet lets me combine my passion for dance with fashion, offering unique and motivational designs for fellow dance enthusiasts.
My life motto encapsulates everything I stand for: WORK. DANCE. BEACH. REPEAT. Work represents all the efforts I put into making my dreams a reality. Dance is my way of staying physically fit. Beach symbolizes my mental and spiritual wellness. Repeat emphasizes the importance of consistency in everything I do.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. I’m excited about what lies ahead and look forward to inspiring and supporting others on their personal development journeys.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Don’t Be Afraid to Try
Trying new things has been crucial in my life. The act of trying involves stepping out of your comfort zone, taking that first step, and being open to new experiences. Trying leads to discovery and personal growth, showing you what’s possible.
Start small and gradually push your boundaries. Whether it’s a new hobby, a different approach at work, or meeting new people, every attempt brings you closer to finding what resonates with you and helps you grow.
2. Don’t Be Afraid to Make Mistakes
Mistakes are a natural part of learning and growth. They provide valuable lessons and help you refine your approach. This mindset has allowed me to take risks and innovate without the fear of failure holding me back.
When you make a mistake, analyze what went wrong and how you can improve. Don’t let fear of failure prevent you from trying new things.
3. Stay Consistent
Success doesn’t come overnight. It’s the result of small, consistent efforts over time. I developed the 77 Days Challenge to embody this principle, focusing on making steady progress towards my goals in manageable increments.
Stay committed to your goals, even when progress seems slow. Develop a routine that supports your objectives and stick to it. Celebrate small victories along the way, and remember that consistency is more important than speed. Little by little, you’ll build momentum and see significant results.
By focusing on these three qualities, you’ll develop a resilient mindset and a strong foundation for success. Keep pushing forward, and you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and focus on my well-being. Here are a few strategies that work for me:
1. Organize my surroundings
A cluttered space can contribute to a cluttered mind. I take time to tidy up and organize my environment. Clearing physical space helps me clear mental space, making it easier to focus and feel in control.
2. Break Tasks into Manageable Steps
When faced with a daunting to-do list, I apply the principles of my 77 Days Challenge. I break tasks into smaller, more manageable steps and focus on making consistent progress. Celebrating small victories along the way keeps me motivated and reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed.
3. Take a Break at the Beach
Being near the ocean is incredibly grounding for me. I take a walk along the shore. It helps me gain perspective and reminds me of the bigger picture.
4. Dance it Out
Movement, especially dance, is a powerful way to release tension and clear my mind. I put on my favorite music and let my body move. It’s a way to reconnect with joy and creativity.
Advice for Managing Overwhelm
1. Prioritize Self-Care
Make time for activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s a walk on the beach, a dance session, or simply sitting in silence. Self-care is essential for maintaining your mental and emotional health.
2. Set Realistic Goals
Break your goals into smaller, achievable steps. Focus on one thing at a time and celebrate your progress, no matter how small.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Reach out to friends and family when you need support. Sharing your load can make it more manageable and provide new perspectives.
4. Stay Consistent
Consistency is key. Establish routines that support your goals and stick to them. Over time, these small, steady efforts will lead to significant progress.
5. Embrace Imperfection
Understand that it’s okay to make mistakes and that perfection is not the goal. Learn from your experiences and keep moving forward.
