Meet Uzma Tahir

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Uzma Tahir. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Uzma, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Finding my purpose has been a journey shaped by exploration, learning, and self-reflection. It wasn’t a single moment of clarity, but rather a process of understanding my strengths, passions, and how I can contribute meaningfully to others. Along the way, I experimented with different roles and responsibilities, often stepping out of my comfort zone, which helped me discover what truly drives me. By aligning my work with values like innovation, impact, and collaboration, I gradually identified what gives me fulfillment. Ultimately, my purpose became clearer as I focused on using my skills to help solve real-world problems and create value for others.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

As the CEO of Cathect Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia Digital (MD) Status software development firm, I am deeply invested in driving innovation and delivering high-quality software solutions. Our company specializes in custom software development, providing ready-made solutions such as hospital and school management systems, as well as expertise in process management and software testing. We operate both in Malaysia and the USA, which gives us a diverse perspective and the ability to cater to various global markets.

What excites me most about what we do at Cathect is the potential to impact industries that are rapidly evolving, such as healthcare and education, by offering tailored digital solutions. Seeing our clients transform their businesses with the help of our technology is truly rewarding. Our focus is always on leveraging cutting-edge tools and methodologies to solve complex problems, whether through bespoke software or innovative testing services.

Currently, we are gearing up for some exciting new projects, including an upcoming launch of an Automated Query Assignment System software, which will help businesses streamline their workflow processes and enhance productivity. We’re also expanding our footprint in software security testing, responding to the rising demand for robust digital infrastructure in a fast-paced world.

Our brand stands for reliability, forward-thinking solutions, and a commitment to excellence. I believe what sets us apart is our deep understanding of the industries we serve and our focus on providing value-driven, impactful technologies.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities and skills that have been most impactful in my journey are:

Adaptability: The ability to adjust to changes and embrace new challenges has been vital in navigating the dynamic nature of the tech industry. As a leader, I’ve had to pivot strategies, explore emerging technologies, and tackle unpredictable market shifts. My advice to those early in their journey is to stay curious and open to learning. The tech landscape is constantly evolving, and the more adaptable you are, the better equipped you’ll be to seize new opportunities.

Strategic Thinking: It’s essential to see the bigger picture and plan accordingly. Strategic thinking helped me align our company’s goals with market trends and customer needs, ensuring we stay competitive. For newcomers, focus on developing a strong understanding of your industry and its future directions. Read extensively, engage with industry experts, and make data-driven decisions to refine your strategic mindset.

Relationship Building: Building meaningful connections with clients, partners, and team members has been a cornerstone of my success. Strong relationships foster trust, collaboration, and long-term success. My advice here is simple: prioritize communication and empathy. Listen carefully, value feedback, and always aim to create win-win scenarios in professional relationships.

For those early in their journey, improving these qualities takes time and intentional effort. Seek mentorship, take calculated risks, and remain patient in your growth. These skills will gradually shape your path to success.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I believe there’s a balance between going all in on our strengths and investing effort into improving areas where we aren’t as strong. Focusing on our strengths allows us to excel and stand out in areas where we naturally perform well, which is crucial for building expertise and confidence. However, it’s equally important to address weaker areas, especially if they hold us back from growth or prevent us from seizing new opportunities.

For example, when I started leading teams, I had strong technical skills but lacked experience in people management. Rather than relying solely on my strengths, I invested time in improving my leadership and communication skills. This not only complemented my technical expertise but also made me a more well-rounded leader, capable of driving both innovation and collaboration.

My advice is to leverage your strengths to push forward, but don’t neglect your weaknesses. With the right balance, you become more adaptable and open to growth.
