Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vadym Kravchenko. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Vadym , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
It’s hard to say exactly. I guess over the years it just became a habit to take things seriously and do them properly. I’ve always believed that if you commit to something, you should follow through and do it right, otherwise, what’s the point?
A big part of it also came from my environment, the college I went to really shaped my sense of discipline, and in my job, you simply can’t get by without it. Being reliable and responsible is just part of the deal.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Vadym, I’m a makeup artist. I moved to Los Angeles from Ukraine. I really love what I do. Since I was a kid, I was always attracted to beauty, beautiful people, elegant women with makeup, well-groomed. It’s kind of part of Ukrainian culture — girls always want to look their best. No surprise Ukrainian women are in top 3 most beautiful in the world.
I was always inspired by beauty, magazines, fashion shows, music videos. I think that’s where it all started for me, but I came to it more serious at 27. That year I finished makeup art academy, and after one year of really hard work, I started to work with top production teams.
We were doing music videos for Ukrainian, European, Russian artists. It’s super hard work — so much stress, long preparation, long shooting days. But when you see the final result — it’s amazing feeling.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First of all, you need to be sure that you really enjoy this work. Because without that, no skills will help. The first skill, for me, is confidence. You have to know how to present yourself, with this you can go very far.
Second is to be goal-oriented. You can’t just give up if something not working. You have to try, and then try again and again. Only like that you get results.
Third skill, very important in my case — stress resistance. Especially in my field. Working with people is maybe the hardest job, and makeup artists — we always in close contact with clients. We must do high quality work and at the same time know how to talk with people.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always in search of new talented people — fashion stylists, hair stylists, photographers, videographers, directors, models. I really enjoy creative collaborations. For us, it’s like a fresh breath of air — a chance to create something unique, to bring our vision into reality.
I truly believe that working together in art helps us grow, explore new ideas, and stay inspired. I’m always open for creative projects and love meeting passionate people who want to do something beautiful.
