Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Val Gallo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Val, thank you so much for making time for us. We’ve always admired your ability to take risks and so maybe we can kick things off with a discussion around how you developed your ability to take and bear risk?
I’ve always been afraid of failure and of not being good enough. Self-esteem is something I’ve struggled with throughout my life and it’s something I’ve had to work really hard on. I’m learning to put myself out there and take risks by trying to see life as an adventure and having fun with it. I don’t want to waste opportunities and regret the things I didn’t do because I was too scared. The only way to develop the ability is by taking action. I’ve noticed that – especially relating to music – when I’m feeling nervous it’s because I have to be brave and take that step forward. I’m an anxious person and I tend to get nervous a lot so I’m constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a vocalist and songwriter, currently working on my project ‘END EVE’. The music is a mix of pop, metal, electronic elements, screams, clean vocals, dark, and heavy. We just finished writing an album that I am really proud of. It tells my story through the past few years. My debut single comes out August 2024, and we also shot a super cool video releasing the same day. I’m a horror movie fan so there’s a lot of horror elements in the video. I can’t wait to finally share this with the world, and for this new chapter in my life!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having a constant sources of inspiration and information, being disciplined/consistent, and being patient.
No matter how much I’ve studied in the past, I try to learn new things all the time and I’m constantly asking questions or going online and looking things up. Being curious is a great skill. I get a lot of my inspiration from movies and books, which helps my creativity when writing new material.
Being consistent and disciplined is key. Putting everything I learn into practice by giving myself goals and working towards those goals every day. Making it a habit to work on what I want to achieve, even when I’m not in the mood. The mind has to be trained and focused. When things don’t go according to plan, or when a door closes, the only thing that will keep us going is a focused mindset.
And finally, patience. In my opinion, it’s the hardest skill to achieve and it’s something I struggle with so much. Sometimes we just need to relax and be patient because we can’t control everything. Trusting the process and keeping positive will make our lives a little easier.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I owe it all to my mom, she’s my rock. She’s always been such a strong and independent woman but she’s also nurturing, loving, and funny. I’m always amazed at how she finds a solution to every problem, and she does it with a positive attitude. Her resiliency is an admirable quality. I’ve never seen her fall apart when dealing with adversity. She never has a victim mentality, instead she finds a way to overcome whatever life throws at her. Watching her navigate life like a total badass has always inspired me and it’s taught me how to be resilient as well. “No es de preocuparse, es de ocuparse” – those words always cross my mind when I’m going through tough times. My mom is a wise woman, I am very lucky to have such an amazing role model.
