We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Valentina Aguilar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Valentina, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
“ perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness and still become something beautiful.” Butterflies are something that mean a lot to me. They reflect growth, transformation, and new beginnings. Taking risks was something always hard for me to do. I always asked myself “ what if” “ but” “ why not”. I developed my ability to take new risks because I know in the end everything will work out, and if not in the moment, there is always room for transformation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi everyone my name is Valentina! I am 19 years old and I am someone with a lot of passion for what I do. I started doing nails back in 2020 when covid happened, and I knew that once I started, it was something I wanted to pursue in. I’m initially new to the LA area, so gaining clients have been a little bit difficult but I don’t ever let it bring me down. I started out going to community college for a year, but I felt like choosing a career path so early was overwhelming. I knew how much I loved making other girls feel good about themselves so that’s when I started to think about my future even more. I didn’t know at the time what I was going to do, but I knew I was going to be successful. I started esthetician school this year, even though I have been procrastinating it for about a year. Once I started, I fell in love with all the knowledge I was gaining. I can’t wait to be my own boss and make my dreams a reality.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that have been impactful during my journey have been my determination, empathy and resilience. Always be determined, be determined to meet your goals, to exceed your goals, and never give up. Another one of the most important aspects of human interaction is our capacity for empathy, or the capacity to see things from others’ viewpoints by comprehending their feelings and experiences. Having resilience is also key, because even at failure, you choose to keep going and try again.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
A challenge right now for me has been gaining clientele. I went from living somewhere for 15 years and growing up in a small town knowing everyone, to not knowing anyone at all. Making friends has definitely been a struggle ever since I moved to Woodland Hills, but that doesn’t stop me from being the person I am today. I don’t get discouraged, but instead a push to keep making content for the people that do support me. I know in the end it’ll all be worth it.
