Meet Valenttina Dias

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valenttina Dias. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Valenttina, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

This is a really important subject for me. A big part of my message as an artist is to give people the confidence to be their true-self. From a young age, I always felt that I didn’t really fit in with everybody. But for the longest time, I tried to. From wearing what my friends were wearing, to wanting to pursue a “normal” career and go to college because my family expected me to. All accumulating and making me feel more and more unhappy. On my case, I had to hit rock bottom to understand that it was ok to be different. That it was good to be true to myself. And only after I understood that, I started listening to my body and learning to feel confident with who I was. To me, confidence and self-esteem has very little to do with appearance and a lot to do with your mentality. Understanding how my body and mind functioned and getting to know myself was key to building these. In a more broad sense of it though, I should say that, like it or not, confidence and self-esteem really come with the famous “fake it till you make”. When you set in your mind that you can do anything, that you look good, that you’re a good person, it really shifts everything. From my personal life, how I see and portray myself, to my professional life, how I make decisions and face difficulties, encouraging myself and telling me I can do anything (even when a lot of times I didn’t fully believe it) brought me a lot of success. It is true that a lot of times you’re gonna feel unsure, be afraid, doubt and criticize yourself, but the less you let these feelings occupy your mind, the more confident you feel. Sometimes you just gotta be a little delusional guys.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a pop singer in love with every aspect of pop. From the catchy melodies that you can’t stop singing, to the outfits that can influence a generation. And I made sure to study all of it. After dropping out of Economics in Brazil and moving to LA, I graduated in music, in acting and became a professional dancer. I’m in love with all the arts, and pop, as I see it, just brings it all together: music, acting, dancing, writing, fashion, filmmaking, photography, etc. Having the confidence and courage to drop out of Economics and start a whole new life, in a whole new country was what allowed me to be truly happy. And I want everybody to find the courage to be happy. Right now, I’m doing everything I’ve always dreamed of doing when I was a kid. I just released my first EP and my new music video and it feels really really good. Also, being able to share all the behind the scenes of not only my work, but also my life in social media with people I care about, makes it even more exciting. So be unapologetic about yourself, do what you always dreamed of and work hard for it. It really pays off. I can say I’m releasing more and more music this next semester and I hope to soon be on tour. I’m in love with performing and I can’t wait to share a great energy with my fans on a live show.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Being persistent, true to myself and passionate were the things that got me to where I am right now. I can’t say I’ve always been a good singer, I’ve always knew how to do social media or I’ve always knew how to act on camera. Because I didn’t. But I knew I wanted to do this for the rest of my life, so I fully dived into it and failed, failed and failed again. But eventually I succeeded. I learned what was working and what wasn’t, spent thousands of hours studying and now I can say I’m really good at what I do. So if you have a dream, devote yourself to it. If you want to be a singer, go take vocal lessons, write songs, learn how to harmonize, study about the music industry and study about yourself. Studying about yourself is just as important as the other areas, if not more. Keep that in mind. So go find your happiness and fail faster. The faster you fail the faster you’ll succeed. And I can tell you, once you do, you’ll forever be grateful to yourself.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always opened to collaborating with new people. Be it a music producer, songwriter, another singer and even photographers and filmmakers. I love seeing how different minds come together making art. A crucial part of the collaborative creating process for me is listening with respect to everybody and being opened to every idea. You never know what an idea can lead to. The most successful sessions and projects to me, are the ones when the people in the room can open up and connect with each other. Honestly, I love when people hit me up on Instagram to collaborate or send me an email presenting their work. So if you’re reading this and feel like we could be a good fit, make cool music together, feel free to do so!
