Meet Valeriia Telemaniuk

We recently connected with Valeriia Telemaniuk and have shared our conversation below.

Valeriia , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Throughout my career, I’ve always been committed to growth and constant improvement. From the very beginning, I surrounded myself with strong, talented professionals who inspired me. I looked up to them, studied their work, and told myself, “One day, I want to be at that level too.”

Eventually, I decided to challenge myself by entering international competitions. The more I competed, the more I pushed my limits—and when I began winning first-place awards, I realized: I belong here. I’m not just inspired by others—I’ve become someone others now look up to.

One of the most defining moments for my confidence was when I won 7 first places, 2 second places, and the Grand Prix—an award given only to the best of the best. That recognition didn’t just boost my self-esteem—it solidified it.

Now I know that my success isn’t accidental. It’s the result of passion, dedication, and the courage to step out and prove what I’m capable of.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Valeriia, and I’m the founder of Altera Nails — a private studio based in San Diego, California, where I specialize in high-end, hard gel manicures and nail artistry. I’ve been in the nail industry for over 10 years, and my passion lies not only in creating elegant, precise designs, but also in raising the standards of nail education and competition on a global level.

What makes my work truly special is my deep commitment to both craftsmanship and international excellence. I’m a certified international beauty judge, a member of several prestigious professional associations, and a multiple-time winner of international nail championships.

In my studio, I work by appointment only, focusing on quality over quantity. I also dedicate time to mentoring upcoming nail artists, sharing competition strategies, and promoting safe, ethical, and high-standard practices in the beauty industry. Currently, I’m working on publishing an educational nail guide that will serve as a foundation for future trainings and workshops.

At Altera Nails, it’s not just about beautiful nails — it’s about confidence, empowerment, and setting global standards. And this is only the beginning.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Persistence, Precision, and Professionalism — these are the three qualities that have shaped my journey in the beauty industry.
• Persistence helped me keep going through challenges, especially after moving to a new country, learning new standards, and building everything from scratch more than once.
• Precision became the core of my artistry. I believe success in nail design comes from attention to the smallest details, and it’s something that can be developed through patience and passion.
• Professionalism helped me gain trust from clients, students, and fellow industry experts. From how I communicate to how I educate or judge competitions, I always hold myself to high international standards.

For those who are just starting: Don’t rush the process. Focus on learning with quality and depth, not speed. Stay curious, stay consistent, and invest in your craft daily. These qualities are not something you are born with — they are built, step by step.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been officially validating and recognizing everything I’ve built over the last 10 years in the nail industry. I’ve successfully formalized my experience, achievements, and expertise — something that felt like a personal milestone and professional breakthrough.

Because of my deep knowledge and consistent work, I am now regularly invited to judge at international beauty championships. For me, this isn’t just a recognition — it’s proof that I’ve reached a level many nail professionals dream of. Being trusted to evaluate the work of others on a global stage represents the highest point in a nail artist’s career, and I’m incredibly proud to be there.
