Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valise Jackson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Valise, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism and purpose come from my deep faith in God. Over the years, I’ve come to see how profoundly God has guided my path and opened doors I never imagined. Now, I live a serene country life that brings me immense joy, complemented by travels that rejuvenate my spirit, unwind my body, and renew my mind. This blend of peaceful living and my profound faith fuels my optimism each day. There is something good in every day even when life dishes out those small frustrations, I just let it wash away.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have built the officiant business from the ground up by doing research, figuring out how to market myself and providing friendly service to couples. Officiating is truly my passion and focus.
I always try to portray southern hospitality at its finest. I make couples feel as though we have known each other before the moment we meet. I have a knack to help them calm their nerves and enjoy each and every moment of their wedding ceremony.
My brand is sharing love. Love is the greatest gift we have to give to each other and it is important to share love with those close to us and those we encounter on our life adventures.
I have written the book How to Create a Successful Wedding Officiant Business and it is available for sale currently as a PDF but I am working on taking it to print. I also have three other small books for sale to help officiants grow their business.
This year I have conducted three notary meet-up sessions to increase collaboration with local notaries and have more in the works. I have conducted one-day wedding officiant training courses and am working on scheduling a multi-session workshop for the Notary Public and Wedding Officiant Business that will is planned for September, 2025.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Starting a small business is not for the weak of heart or body. There is a lot of work involved but with consistency and dedication it can happen.
When I started working for myself, failure was not an option. I knew I had to find a way to make it happen and have the ability to support myself financially, and it all has come together.
My advice would be to anyone in the beginning states of their entreprenural journey:
1. Look at the resources you have that you can use – for me I had a house, car, notary public license and a commitment to succeed
2. Make a plan – write down your goals, make a vision board, visualize what you want
3. Get to work! Be organized and follow your plan.
4. Change and adapt! I have had to do this several times over the last decade. Pivoting is essential. Every year has been different which required me to make changes.
5. Every year re-evaluate your business. What changes need to me made? I have made many changes, adapted to the changing landscape of business.
6. Never stop dreaming! because they just may come true!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to connect with wedding planners and wedding venues to create unique options for couples to get married and have a wedding of their dreams be it simple or an elaborate formal wedding. With the growth population in the state of Tennessee and the many that come to this beautiful state for a destination wedding there are so many new opportunities that would open the door with collaboration between me and other wedding vendors.
