Meet Valory Pierce

We recently connected with Valory Pierce and have shared our conversation below.

Valory, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Creativity can be found in everything we see, do and experience. From the media content we consume to just simply living life! Whenever I feel like I’m stuck in a rut I often would reach out to friends, take a break, go on an adventure if the weather is nice or I browse the channels to see what new show or movie is out.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m an actress / artist but I started my journey on YouTube drawing webcomics and one thing led to another and now I’m pursuing the art of acting! I had always loved drawing and performing ever since I could remember.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Resilience, courage and ambition! The journey as an artist is different from person to person but often times we forget to look back and remember just how far we’ve come. It’s always crucial and even sometimes vital to take a beat, relax and reflect on your journey. Whether it be in the pursuit of the arts or even self growth, it’s important to enjoy life.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

As a creative soul, I needed time to rest, reset and reflect upon my journey. There comes a point when you realize “Hey… is this really the type of path I want to be on? Have I lost my sense of self identity in desperate pursuit to survive in this business?” I think it’s wonderful that there have been many opportunities in my field but I think work-life-balance plays a crucial part as well.

No matter how far or how new your journey may be, it’s important to take a step back and really check in with yourself and make sure your personal growth also aligns with your career growth. We often give a lot of ourselves in the arts but make sure to make time for yourself as well. Nothing is more awkward than being asked “So what else do you like to do outside of *insert career field*?” And you literally go blank! I had that happened a few times and I’m glad this year I took some time to really re-align myself.
