Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vaneshia Houston. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vaneshia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience has been a constant thread woven throughout my life, forged from adversity, determination, and the pursuit of change not just for myself but for those who would follow in my footsteps. Being the first in my immediate family to graduate from college was more than a personal milestone; it was a seismic shift—a breaking of a generational ceiling that had held back dreams, expectations, and, sometimes, hope.
Growing up, the limitations imposed by circumstance were ever-present. My family’s story, like many, was shaped by hard work and challenges.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and the heart of my professional journey. I am the founder of Serenity Executives LLC, a multifaceted business dedicated to providing essential services that empower individuals and businesses alike. As a notary, loan signing agent, and soon life insurance professional, I am committed to offering peace of mind and streamlined solutions that guide people through critical milestones in their lives—be it closing a home purchase, securing their family’s future, or ensuring their documents are protected.
What excites me most about this work is the opportunity to blend professional expertise with a personal touch. I believe that even in formal or transactional processes, human connection matters. Every signing I facilitate, and every stamp I apply is done with attention to detail, care, and a genuine commitment to service.
My background in the transit industry, where I dedicated nearly 16 years at both state and local levels, taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, leadership, and the power of community. I bring those insights into Serenity Executives LLC. Our mission is not just about services; it is about helping people move forward confidently, whether they’re achieving a financial milestone or safeguarding their family’s future.
Looking ahead, Serenity Executives LLC has plans for growth and expanded community engagement. We aim to launch educational workshops, providing individuals with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions regarding loans, notary services, real estate and more.
I remain deeply committed to making a positive impact, fostering trust, and building connections that elevate the lives of the people I serve through personal and business.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have had the most profound impact on my personal and professional growth: resilience, adaptability, and effective communication. These attributes have been honed over years of diverse experiences, from breaking barriers as a first-generation college graduate to serving in demanding roles across various industries.
1. Resilience
Resilience is the capacity to face adversity head-on and push through despite obstacles. My path was not without challenges—becoming the first in my immediate family to graduate college required overcoming financial, social, and institutional hurdles. This experience taught me that setbacks are temporary and that perseverance, combined with self-belief, can lead to breakthroughs.
Advice: For those at the start of their journey, view each challenge as a stepping stone. Develop your ability to bounce back from setbacks by learning from every failure and leaning on your support system. Cultivate a positive mindset that embraces obstacles as opportunities to grow stronger.
2. Adaptability
Navigating multiple industries, from science to public transit leadership to cultivating entrepreneurship, has required constant adaptation. The ability to learn quickly, pivot when necessary, and thrive in ever-changing environments has proven invaluable, even when no one supports you.
Advice: To develop adaptability, put yourself in new and challenging situations that push you out of your comfort zone. Seek diverse experiences and keep learning—it will help you become more agile and confident in handling unexpected changes.
3. Effective Communication
Strong communication skills have been essential in building trust, resolving conflicts, and leading diverse teams. Whether connecting with clients, engaging in community development, or navigating complex projects, I have learned the power of listening actively and conveying ideas clearly.
Advice: Prioritize developing both your verbal and written communication skills. Practice active listening, ask questions, and be open to feedback. Building meaningful relationships starts with being a good communicator—an essential skill that will benefit every aspect of your life and career.
For those just beginning their journey, I encourage a focus on personal growth, an openness to learning, and a commitment to hard work. Develop these qualities intentionally, and you’ll find yourself prepared for whatever comes your way.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am always open to partnerships and collaborations that align with my mission of providing exceptional services and fostering meaningful community impact. Collaborating with others who share a commitment to improving lives, ensuring peace of mind, and fostering trust is of great interest.
I am particularly looking to connect with real estate agents, mortgage and title professionals, legal advisors, insurance specialists, and community organizations that share a commitment to professionalism and empowering clients. Collaborations could include joint educational seminars, workshops, or initiatives that enhance community access to key services, especially in the areas of financial literacy, estate planning, and insurance solutions.
