We recently connected with Vanessa Pascale and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, thank you so much for making time for us today. We can’t wait to dive into your story and the lessons you’ve learned along the way, but maybe we can start with something foundational to your success. How have you gone about developing your ability to communicate effectively?
I think I am inately a good communicator, which is why I graviated towards writing. I am comfortable expressing myself and being a voice for others. I believe the key to communicating effectively is knowing yourself and being confident in yourself. I am also constantly reading and listening to podcasts that help me evolve as a person so I am always learning new ways to articulate myself or how to be better received when expressing a difference in opinion.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a lifestyle journalist and editor. I have the pleasure of writing features about everything that I love: fascinating people, luxe travel destinations, great food, and much more. I truly love interviewing celebrities and inspiring people as I love hearing amazing stories and sharing it with others so that they’re inspired as well and so that they realize that they can do anything they put their mind to. I hope to inspire others to dream big and to go after their dreams. I believe anything is possible, you just have to believe and work for it. I’ve seen this with the hundreds of stars I’ve interviewed and in my own life.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey as a journalist are my tenacity, confidence, and hard work/dedication.
I know what I want and I am not afraid to go after it and work hard for it. And I’ve always had the mindset of, why not me? Growing up, my dad ingrained in me that whatever I want, I need to go out and ask for it. I think this has served me very well.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I think it’s important to do both: go all in on your strengths and work on the areas you’re not as strong in. I think there is always room for improvement, and I hope that I am learning and becoming better with each day. Again, that’s why I love speaking with/interviewing people because you learn so much from others. I could be struggling with a problem and speak to someone who unlocks a solution or point of view I never considered and it changes things for me. I think everyone we encounter in our lives can teach us something.
