Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vanessa Robertson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vanessa, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
I have owned F45 Training Wolfchase since 2019 and just acquired F45 Germantown at the beginning of June. As a small business owner of two F45 studios, I am often asked where my self-discipline comes from. For me, it stems from a combination of personal drive, passion, and a strong belief in continuous improvement.
First and foremost, I am incredibly passionate about what I do. I have a genuine love for fitness and helping others lead healthier lives. This passion serves as a powerful motivator, pushing me to stay disciplined even when faced with challenges or setbacks. I firmly believe that when you truly love what you do, it becomes easier to maintain self-discipline.
In addition to passion, I place a great emphasis on the importance of taking action, even when I don’t feel like it. It’s easy to fall into the trap of waiting for motivation to strike, but I’ve learned that motivation is fleeting. Instead, I focus on developing a strong work ethic and committing to consistent action. Whether it’s attending to administrative tasks or pushing through a tough workout, I remind myself of the long-term goals and the satisfaction that comes from accomplishing them.
Another significant source of my self-discipline comes from my upbringing. My parents instilled in me the value of always giving my best effort. They taught me that success is not achieved by simply going through the motions, but by consistently pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. This mindset has been deeply ingrained in me and serves as a constant reminder to never settle for mediocrity.
Lastly, I firmly believe in the power of personal development. I dedicate time each day to educate myself, both in terms of industry knowledge and personal growth. By continually learning and expanding my skills, I am able to stay disciplined and adapt to the ever-changing business landscape.
In conclusion, while motivation may come and go, self-discipline is what keeps me consistently moving forward. It originates from my passion, my commitment to taking action, the values instilled by my parents, and my dedication to continuous learning. By staying disciplined, I can overcome obstacles, achieve my goals, and provide the best possible experience for my clients at both of my F45 studios.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At F45, we specialize in functional training, delivering powerful workout sessions packed into just 45 minutes. What sets us apart is our unique approach of providing individualized training within a dynamic group atmosphere. We cater to a diverse range of members with varying fitness levels, ensuring that everyone feels supported and challenged in their fitness journey.
One of the most exciting aspects of what we do is the strong connection we establish with our members. Our trainers take the time to get to know each individual, understanding their goals and limitations. This personalized approach allows us to provide tailored guidance, pushing our members to reach new heights while keeping them safe and motivated.
But we don’t stop at just workouts. We believe that health and fitness encompass so much more than sweating it out in the gym. That’s why I’ve taken the initiative to become a PN Level 1 & 2 Certified Health & Nutrition Coach. I now have the expertise to offer additional guidance to our members in areas such as sleep, stress management, and nutrition. I firmly believe that a holistic approach is key to achieving long-lasting results and overall well-being.
In fact, I also provide one-on-one deep health coaching sessions, not only to our members but also to non-members. This allows me to extend my knowledge and support beyond the walls of our studios. I’m passionate about empowering individuals to make positive lifestyle changes that go far beyond their workout routine. By addressing the broader aspects of health, we can truly transform lives and create lasting impact.
On a business front, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently expanded my reach by acquiring the Germantown studio at the beginning of June. This addition strengthens our presence in the community, allowing us to serve even more individuals who are eager to prioritize their health and fitness.
As for what’s new and upcoming, we constantly strive to innovate and provide the best experience for our members. We regularly host events, launch new programs, and introduce exciting workouts to keep our community engaged and motivated. Be sure to stay connected with us through our website and social media channels to stay up to date with the latest happenings and offerings.
At F45, we are more than just a fitness brand. We are a community-driven, results-oriented movement that believes in empowering individuals to unlock their full potential. Join us on this transformative journey, and together, let’s redefine what it means to live a healthy, fulfilling life.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Reflecting on my journey as a small business owner, there are three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the most significant impact on my success:
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to changing circumstances and navigate through unexpected challenges is crucial. The business landscape is constantly evolving, and being able to pivot, innovate, and embrace change is key. My advice to those early in their journey is to cultivate a growth mindset and remain open to learning and adapting. Seek out opportunities to expand your knowledge, stay updated on industry trends, and be willing to adjust your strategies as needed. Embrace change as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback.
Relationship Building: Building strong relationships with customers, employees, and partners is essential for long-term success. Invest time in understanding the needs and goals of your customers, and strive to exceed their expectations. Develop effective communication skills to build trust and rapport with your team and collaborators. Actively seek feedback and continuously improve your interpersonal skills. Networking and participating in industry events can also be valuable for expanding your professional connections. Remember, genuine relationships are built on trust, respect, and mutual benefit.
Continuous Learning: Committing to lifelong learning and personal development has been instrumental in my journey. Stay curious and embrace a mindset of continuous improvement. Seek out educational opportunities, whether through courses, workshops, books, or podcasts. Be proactive in staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. Additionally, don’t underestimate the power of learning from others. Seek mentors or join professional communities where you can connect with like-minded individuals and gain valuable insights from their experiences.
My advice to those starting their journey is to prioritize personal growth and never stop learning. Be proactive in seeking out knowledge and skills that can enhance your business acumen. Embrace a growth mindset and be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Remember, the journey of entrepreneurship is a continuous learning process, and investing in yourself will pay dividends in the long run.
In summary, adaptability, relationship building, and continuous learning have been instrumental in my journey as a small business owner. Cultivate these qualities, develop the necessary skills, and commit to lifelong learning. Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth and keep pushing forward, always striving to better yourself and your business.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, I prioritize taking care of myself and implementing strategies to regain balance. I take breaks and try to do things I enjoy such as walking while listening to an audiobook, relaxing out in the sun, or spending time with family or friends. I prioritize self-care, especially getting enough sleep each night. That way, I wake up refreshed and ready to conquer the day. I also try to delegate and seek support from my amazing team members. It’s important to recognize that you don’t have to do everything alone. In addition, it’s really important for me to practice gratefulness for all of the blessings which God gives me every day. My faith is a foundation for everything else I do, and it’s vital that I make it a priority.
