We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vanessa Velib . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vanessa below.

Vanessa , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

We are all creative, we are creators, and we are powerful. The only way to keep creativity alive within us is by connecting to that energy. If we forget this energy and remain focused only on daily tasks, stress, work, and our minds, always doing the same thing, it may become very difficult to tap into that creative energy.

What I do to keep that energy alive is connect with it daily. How? By meditating and using my imagination. Creativity is limitless; it comes from a source that cannot be seen but is experienced and felt when we are calm, serene, and in a state of flow.

One of the things I like to do to awaken creativity is writing—writing whatever comes from the heart or mind. Writing on paper is very important for people’s creativity. I try to write every day, either three pages or for 30 minutes, just expressing myself in words, pouring out my feelings, emotions, plans, adventures, ideas—everything I want. The more you do it, the more you connect with that creative energy.

Something that has also helped me lately is dancing. I put on music before painting and dance to the rhythm. The body needs to express itself; it’s not just about words, drawings, or your voice. The body itself needs to release stored energies to allow the creativity of the universe to enter. Meditating before dancing is important, and doing it afterward as well to notice the difference. Then, starting to paint with harmony, joy, happiness, and freedom is what I love to do.

Keeping creativity alive requires a conscious effort and practices that connect us to that infinite energy. This way, we can continue creating and living in a full and authentic way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

From a young age, I was drawn to all forms of artistic expression—painting, drawing, crafts, dancing, theater, and more. Even in kindergarten, my favorite activities were painting and drawing, often using crayons and acrylics to create abstract art and portraits of my family and friends. At the tender age of seven, I confidently wrote, “I am an artist,” a declaration of my lifelong passion.

While academic subjects didn’t capture my interest, any class that allowed me to be creative or active did—whether it was baking, dancing, or engaging in arts and crafts. This love for creative expression never waned; it followed me through my life, shaping my decisions and milestones.

At 19, I held my first exhibition in San Antonio, TX, where I showcased abstract pieces that later sold. Inspired to deepen my artistic skills, I studied performing arts at three different schools in Miami, FL, which profoundly enriched my passion and creativity. Throughout this journey, my focus has always been on evolving as an artist, continually striving to be better every day.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

First, focus is paramount. Aspiring to be an artist, I dedicated my thoughts and efforts to this goal. Continuous improvement is my aspiration, always striving to surpass my previous abilities.

Second, the mantra is to create, create, and create again. Inspiration thrives during the act of creation. Your creative energy will amplify as you persistently expand your imagination. Continue to create irrespective of criticism or lack of approval. Success lies in pursuing your passion, focusing on personal growth, and refining your art daily, regardless of external opinions.

Third, recognize no boundaries. Ideas often emerge unexpectedly, so never restrict your creativity. This energy is abundant, and ideas are limitless when you remain open to them.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am seeking creative collaborators to help expand the vision for my upcoming art performances next year. I am looking for talented individuals including dancers, musicians (such as violinists, pianists, saxophonists, and drummers), choreographers, videographers, singers, DJs, and art directors, among others. These collaborators will contribute to creating a comprehensive theater performance that combines paint, music, and lighting to forge a unique artistic experience. This project aims to build on the success of my previous performances, but on a grander scale.
