Meet Vanita Joseph

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vanita Joseph a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Vanita, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I realized that there are things I’m good at that some people aren’t very skilled at, and I should be grateful for that. When it comes to talents, I would often look at others’ talents instead of focusing on my own. There are still things that I wish I could do, but I’ve decided to focus more on my own talents and work on perfecting them.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am super focused on my music career. I have always had a dream of performing for big crowds and sharing my music with the world. It’s difficult to manage now that I’m a full-time college student with a part-time job, but I work really hard to still work on my music whenever I get the chance. I recently released my debut EP, “Flight” under the name Vanita Renée on all platforms! It includes five tracks: 3 brand new original songs, 1 remix + feature, and 1 extended version. I also have a love for content creation that I can’t shake. I love posting YouTube videos every week and I look forward to growing a large, loving community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Faith, persistence, and learning. I put my faith before everything. I trust that I will receive everything that God has in store for me, so I continue to put my trust in Him. In addition, I believe that it’s hard to get where you want to be without being persistent. It’s important to fight for what you want and not give up at the first sign of failure. Lastly, never stop trying to learn something new. Even when you think you’ve mastered something, strive to dig deeper.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Insecurity. We live in a time where no one has a mind of their own, and we can easily access society’s opinions right at our fingertips. Whether it be how I should look or how my singing voice should sound, someone always has something to say. However, I have told myself time and time again that it only matters what God thinks. If the whole world hates what you’re doing and God loves it, keep doing it. And He made me so beautifully, so why should I worry about what others think? Especially knowing that they weren’t the ones that made you.
