Meet Vasilikí Vaikousi

We recently connected with Vasilikí Vaikousi and have shared our conversation below.

Vasilikí, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I always felt the need to spend my time creatively – express myself by letting my emotions turn into stories and images though movement, writing and performing altogether.
To keep creativity alive, I think, one has to focus on becoming a good listener, an observer of all sorts. Then the process of creating stays effortless in the moment and you automatically approach your work from a place of openness. Like a sponge, you take in what you see, what you hear, you process it, you let it out.
On that note, creativity is something that can’t be forced. It is something that actively happens because it fulfills you. That is the literal meaning of the word which I find noteworthy.
In todays age however a lot of times one tries to find fulfillment and validation in the wrong places and that’s where creativity fades.
It is easy to get caught up in results which I think takes away all the natural joy that comes along with the act of creating.
We all have expectations – but one has to be cautious too that those expectations don’t lead into the trap of allowing your work to become result focused, and loose its spontaneity.
Once you start thinking about how your work will be perceived, you unconsciously start creating while worrying about people’s opinions which blocks genuine artistic expression and reduces truthfulness and authenticity.
Then also, dealing with perfectionism is something that can equally harm your work but there are ways to find balance between “discipline” and “ freedom while valuing striving for “perfection” as much as you value letting go of the idea of it. And knowing when to do that.
One of those ways is focusing on getting to know yourself which seems to happen a lot when one isn’t afraid of failing – therefore takes risks.
You truly accept all the things that make you who you are.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I sing/write music, dance and act. I have lots of original music coming out this year and I am very happy and excited to start sharing it!
i just released an alternative dream pop cover of ‘Cheri Cheri Lady” by Modern Talking and on August 9th, my debut single “HarleyQueen” is coming out.
This whole new era of music is like a collection of thoughts and ideas on love and heartbreak and the acceptance of ones self though adversity. Also about the emotions you feel as a young person when you start understanding the world around you while living in a different country and how memories affect our lives more then we recognize.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Never stop believing in yourself. That is it.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

I spend time with my cats and try to remind myself that overthinking is useless and harmful.
