We recently connected with Vasjan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Vasjan with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Success motivates me. Seeing successful people and successful things that I want to succeed in, makes me work even harder than before. For example, being a club promoter and throwing events, it motivates me if I see a big event going on in the city because it makes me think, why did I not think of that first, so that makes me go even harder in my job.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a club/event promoter and I also make music. Being an event promoter, I take care of booking the artist, the venue, the djs, making sure the tickets & vips are selling and making sure that people are enjoying themselves. I book a lot of big hip-hop artist but also local talent from Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I’ve worked with artists such as Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, NLE Choppa, Sean Paul, Gucci Mane and many more. I’m also an artist and I usually do hip-hop and club music. I’ve performed in big venues in Boston such as Big Night Live and Roadrunner and I have opened up for artist such as Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy. Being tapped in with the music scene, I’m also a Grammy member which gives me the opportunity to nominate and vote for songs of the award show. Recently I have been doing some A&R work where basically I bring local talent to big record labels such as Atlantic Records & Warner Music.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities impactful in my journey are communication, hard work and dedication. I say these three because as far as communication I always reach out to people by text or dm checking up on them and sending them my events, hard work because I never give up if I want to do something and dedication because I’m focused on the events and music and I have goals that I want to achieve. For young upcoming promoters I would advice them to go to as many events as they can and network, talk to people don’t just stay in the corner, exchange phone numbers and make sure you follow up with them on social media in a couple days so they can remember you.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I put God first in everything I do. I’ve been throwing events in Ma & Ri for about 4 years now and there have been a lot of obstacles on the way but I never gave up and always prayed for the better and more successful events. After every mistake, I’ve learned to not make that business mistake again in the future and that has made me grow and do better business
