We recently connected with Vel Wall and have shared our conversation below.
Vel, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from my parents. They have always taught me to never let anything stop me and I have carried that mindset throughout my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner/operator of Krispies by Vel and I do it all, from baking to marketing and selling. We make gourmet rice crispy treats with a huge focus on flavors! Our rotating monthly menu debuts unique flavors that fit each season, from key lime pie in the spring to pumpkin cheesecake in the fall. Developing new flavors is my favorite part of what we do because I get to be creative. This exploration is so fun and the taste testing part isn’t bad either!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three factors that held the most impact on me and my business were having a positive attitude, being willing to bet on myself, and having a solid support system.
The best advice I could give is to trust yourself and remain positive. A good attitude will attract more positivity and trusting yourself goes hand in hand with being willing to bet on yourself. One way that I have developed these skills is to be mindful of my thoughts. If I realize that I am being negative or talking down on myself, I will immediately interrupt that thought and compliment myself or tell myself a funny story in my head. It may sound silly, but it has helped me tremendously!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I am overwhelmed, I do one of the following: listen to happy or calming music, take a bath, get a massage.
These are activities I have recognized that bring me to a happy place. I would recommend finding 3 separate things the follow these guidelines and do them based on you current state/resources. One that you can do while you’re completing a task, another that you can do if you have free time, and the last one should be something that you can do if you have free time and spare cash. These may look different for everyone but finding happiness can really help to alleviate feeling overwhelmed. If tackling this feeling alone doesn’t help, the talking to a loved one, like my mom or boyfriend, really helps me to destress.
