Meet Vera Marit

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vera Marit a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Vera, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Confidence and Self-Esteem: A Personal Perspective

In my view, confidence & self-esteem are mindset you can develop by being completely honest with yourself and ready to take action and work hard towards progress.
What I mean by that is how often people like to blame everyone else for their failures: parents, government, etc., instead of honest self-analysis: What skill set have I built? What is still missing? What is okay but needs improvement? What makes me feel proud of myself? What makes me productive and opposite? And so on.

Of course, these questions are customizable, it’s very individual.

It’s difficult to accept the bitter truth about yourself, but with acceptance comes relief and understanding of how to fix things. Otherwise, you can trick yourself and skip the responsibility for your actions.

Ignoring the existence of a problem, remaining unresponsive to signs of trouble, shifting blame and making excuses when the issue is finally recognized, creating confusion and distortion around the true situation, staying static even when it’s clear something has gone wrong.

In the long term, this will only get worse and might develop into a bigger problem.

So, my point is: Don’t remain static even when everything seems to go well. Keep progressing. The world nowadays is moving so fast, you have to always be ready to transform and adjust.

Do what makes you feel good about yourself.
Learn skills and character traits that you admire in others.

From my personal very raw example:

I always admired girls who can do their own makeup. I thought, “Wow, it’s like a superpower! You can wear a customized attitude (because makeup is an attitude) for different occasions.

We can’t choose our physical appearance, but we can choose how to carry ourselves.
I get annoyed when I hear someone say, “Oh, she’s so beautiful, she doesn’t need makeup!”
Oh well! That means that person has never felt the magic effect of the right makeup application.

Those who have experienced it know that if you enhance best features of your face you can conquer the world.

No matter what people say, looking good helps. Beauty is subjective, developing a good taste is important.
Being beautiful inside but not caring about your beauty outside is incomplete. Incompleteness equals a gap that can show up in your mental health or any other important aspect of your life.
Be complete! Be happy!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Vera Marit and I’m a professional makeup artist and educator. I’m also the founder of the makeup brand “Happy Eyelids.” My products are vegan and cruelty-free, designed specifically for hooded eyes. However, what works great for hooded eyes will be absolutely perfect for any other eye shape too. Hooded eyes require more attention to detail, such as certain brush shapes and sizes, the quality of the bristles, products that can withstand the pressure of the eyelids, specific textures and formulas, and waterproof and long-lasting properties. As an experienced makeup artist, I know what makes products and brushes perform best. It also helps that I’m super picky 😁, so I’m happy to contribute to the beauty industry and create something special.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are dedication, the ability to ignore failures and lack of immediate results, and strong communication skills. Of course, there are many more, but these are essential features from which you can expand your horizons.
When you choose to be your own boss, it takes a lot of self-control and commitment. Can you still take action on days when you don’t feel like doing it, when you know you won’t be paid, but it’s important for your continued growth? What about when you don’t feel good physically?
Beauty professionals, especially bridal ones, set the tone for the day not only by delivering the best possible performance but also by bringing the best energy. No matter what is happening in our lives, we must sincerely be great communicators and give our best energy, and most importantly, mean it, because people can feel it.
Often, people think that makeup artistry is just a hobby and that it’s easy and super fun. It is truly amazing! But not everyone who builds a makeup kit and charges money for doing makeup is really a makeup artist. Additionally, not every true makeup artist can succeed without being a good businessperson. It’s a complex combination of many factors and skills!

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

yes! I believe it’s crucial to go all in on our strengths . Of course, staying curious about other things is crucial. But if you can determine rightly your strengths and stay focused on developing them will help you to achieve a lot more success than. Now, once you’ll achieve your goals, you have to analyse if some of the weaknesses interfere with your goals, if you can delegate them -great! if not, then you definitely need to do some work. That’s why not all people are successful, because it takes more effort, determination and time. Ability to ignore failure and take it as a valuable opportunity and keep working towards your goals.
