We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Veronica Bianqui. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Veronica below.
Veronica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience, for me, is survival. It’s an optimism born from a difficult childhood, where I learned early on to take care of myself amidst chaos and dysfunction. Music and school became my refuge.
In recent years, I faced profound loss: my sister in 2017, and both parents in 2020 and 2021, leaving me the sole survivor of my immediate family at just 35. Clearing out my childhood 2 bedroom apartment after their deaths was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Despite this, I’ve remained sober and started a new chapter in my life.
Determined to live fearlessly and pursue my dreams, I returned to university. This time, in London, the city I loved since my days as a Spice Girls fan. Now, I am writing more music than ever and working on new albums, using my pain to fuel my creativity and drive to live fully and as presently as I can.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a recording artist, songwriter, performer, and musician specializing in indie art rock with a feminist, punky edge. My music features loud guitars and witty, sarcastic lyrics, always with a good hook. Currently, I’m pursuing my second master’s degree at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
This academic journey is providing the structure and intellectual stimulation to rediscover myself as an artist. My creativity is thriving; I’ve written over an album’s worth of material, created music videos, scored films, and directed a 15-minute music documentary.
While my studies are my primary focus now, I have a growing catalog of music that I plan to release soon. In the meantime, sneak peeks are available on my social media channels.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Acute sense of mortality: I’ve always been aware of life’s brevity, prompting me to live fully. My recent losses reinforce this awareness, guiding my major decisions. I often ask myself if I’ll regret not taking certain actions in my later years.
2. Intuition and joy: When faced with indecision, I follow my intuition and move toward what brings joy. If a decision makes my heart feel open, it’s right. Fear contracts and fills my mind with “what if” scenarios. I counter this by thinking, “what if it all goes right?”
3. Persistent desires: If a desire persists, act on it. I moved to London after 14+ years of dreaming about it. After my family passed, I finally went for it and couldn’t be happier. I pinch myself every day.
I don’t claim to give advice, only share my experience. Stay creative, work on yourself, and be kind. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make mistakes. A bit of healthy delusion can keep your dreams alive.
And gratitude is a practice. Keep it up!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to build a team behind me, as I’ve been DIY for many years. Any booking agents or managers out there, give me a holler!
Creatively, I aim to start producing and engineering for other artists as well, so any artists who want to work with an up and coming producer/songwriter, also reach out! Or if other songwriters want to collaborate, give me a shout.
