Meet Veronica Carr

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Veronica Carr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Veronica, we sincerely appreciate you joining us today and agreeing to talk about some very personal topics. So, to kick things off, let’s talk about a tough one – divorce. Can you talk to us about how you overcame divorce?

As a wedding and event planner, my role is to design celebrations that mark the beginning of people’s forevers, honor their most cherished milestones, and uplift brands. Yet, while creating these once-in-a-lifetime moments for others, my own 12-year marriage was coming to an end. It was a profound contrast—crafting the beauty of love stories while privately navigating heartbreak. But through that season, I discovered a deeper strength and empathy that transformed not only my life, but also my work. Divorce didn’t diminish my passion for planning love-filled events; it expanded it. It taught me that even when one chapter closes, joy, resilience, and new beginnings are always possible. Today, I bring that perspective into every celebration I create, ensuring that each client’s story is honored with authenticity, heart, and hope.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m the founder and lead planner of Type A Soirée Planning & Design, a luxury wedding and event planning firm based in San Diego. For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of curating celebrations that reflect not just logistics and design, but heart, story, and purpose. What began as a passion for creating unforgettable weddings has evolved into a full-service brand that now spans luxury weddings, nonprofit galas, and large-scale corporate events.

What excites me most is the duality of what we get to do—on one hand, crafting deeply personal moments for couples stepping into their forever, and on the other, building elevated experiences for companies and organizations that want to connect with their communities, celebrate milestones, or launch something new. In recent years, we’ve really expanded into corporate work, producing conferences, product launches, and brand-aligned events that carry the same creativity and polish we bring to weddings. That shift has allowed us to stretch our artistry and logistics on a larger scale, while still maintaining the boutique, highly personalized service our clients value.

At the core of Type A Soirée is a belief that events are more than gatherings—they’re storytelling opportunities. Whether it’s a black-tie gala, a rooftop dinner, or a multi-day festival, we design each event to reflect the people and purpose behind it. That’s what keeps our work so meaningful and special, even after 12 years: every event is unique, every client has a story, and we get to be the bridge between vision and reality.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, I’d say the three qualities that shaped my journey most have been resilience, adaptability, and relationship-building. Resilience carried me through the hardest seasons—personally and professionally—while still showing up fully for my clients. Adaptability has been essential in an industry where no two events, clients, or even days are ever the same; learning to pivot with grace is what keeps the magic alive instead of letting stress take over. And relationship-building—both with clients and vendors—has been the heartbeat of my business. Strong relationships create trust, and trust creates extraordinary events.

For those just starting out, my advice would be: don’t wait for challenges to teach you resilience—start strengthening that muscle now by embracing setbacks as opportunities. Practice adaptability by staying curious and open; try new tools, new styles, and new approaches instead of clinging to one way of doing things. And above all, invest in your relationships. Build your network authentically, nurture it with care, and lead with integrity. In this business, skill and creativity matter, but it’s your character and connections that will sustain you for the long haul.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

One of the biggest challenges I’m facing right now is helping clients truly understand the value of what we charge. As planners, we are such an integral part of a successful event that in many ways, we often pay for ourselves—whether it’s through the industry discounts we secure, the countless hours of research and logistics we save, or the peace of mind we bring by anticipating details clients wouldn’t know to consider.

The challenge is compounded by the fact that the market is saturated with inexperienced “planners” who may present well online but lack the depth of knowledge needed to execute flawlessly. In today’s world of AI-generated content, paid followers, and curated feeds, it’s easy to look like you know what you’re doing. But the truth is, events don’t get a redo. When you’re investing in a milestone or brand moment, you need someone who has the experience, relationships, and foresight to assemble the right team and manage every moving part with precision.

To overcome this challenge, I’ve leaned into education and transparency. I’m intentional about walking clients through what goes into our process, showing them the layers of value beyond design and logistics, and illustrating how the cost of hiring a seasoned professional is far outweighed by the risk of entrusting such an important occasion to someone unqualified. It’s about reframing the conversation—helping people see that hiring the right planner isn’t just an expense, it’s an investment in the success of their event.
