Meet Veronica Garcia

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Veronica Garcia a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Veronica, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my grandmother Corina. A culinary goddess/ entrepreneur, and a staple in the phoenix community.

Her and my grandfather Rudy owned Rudy’s Iron Gate Cocktails in Uptown Phoenix. Both so very talented, opera singers, and culinary artists. While raising families, there was nothing impossible in their eyes.

My Nana ended up raising us most of our lives because my mom was a single parent and worked long hours.

Nana Cora always taught us that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.

When I dropped out of high school. She was the first to tell me to go back and finish.

I decided to take her advice after senior year passed.

I found a scholarships program @ Rio Salado College and entered a writing competition about my life. My hardships, what I have personally experienced in life and so on.

I won the scholarship and attended College while obtaining my GED.
I worked at Kyoto Bowl as a sushi chef and went to school for psychology and general education basic college courses. My nana always pushed me throughout the years. Told me to never give up and keep going!!

Nana Cora is still alive after 2 Breast Cancer Scares and stronger than ever.
She makes up to 60 dozens of tamales, scratch made every Christmas and that’s where I get my resilience from.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
