We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vic Fu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with VIC below.
Hi VIC, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by continuously challenging myself and stepping out of my comfort zone. Embracing failures as learning opportunities, setting realistic goals, and surrounding myself with supportive people played a significant role. Practicing self-compassion and recognizing my achievements, no matter how small, also helped in building a positive self-image. Keep trying to creative and get the feedback from the outside world, keep building the connection with the audience.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a multimedia artist, based in New York, employing photography, video, projection, and installation art to construct a non-binary ecological narrative. Within this realm, distinctions of gender, origin, and culmination dissolve.
My artistic practice is defined by a fusion of media, including video mapping, installation art, and photography. As a digital native born in 2000, I perceive my reality as an illusion and my illusion as a reality. Nature, akin to a mother, and the digital world, akin to a father, collectively shape my artistic identity.
My projects aim to transcend conventional boundaries, infusing an essence of weirdness, mistakes, non-dualism, and fluidity. By drawing inspiration from the authentic nature that surrounds us and the inherent nature we are born with, I seek to explore and represent the true essence of our existence.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey were:
1. Embracing Multidisciplinary Approaches:
Integrating various media like photography, video, projection, and installation art has allowed me to construct a rich, non-binary ecological narrative. This fusion of media provided a unique platform to dissolve distinctions and convey complex concepts more effectively.
For those early in their journey, I recommend exploring and experimenting with different media. Don’t limit yourself to one form of expression. Combining various techniques can open up new avenues for creativity and innovation.
2. Perception of Reality and Illusion:
Understanding the fluid boundary between reality and illusion, influenced by my digital native background, has been crucial in shaping my artistic vision. This perception helps in creating works that challenge conventional notions and invite viewers to question their own realities.
Cultivate an awareness of how digital and physical worlds interact. Reflect on your experiences and perceptions, and use them to challenge traditional boundaries in your art. Embrace the concept that reality can be fluid and subjective.
3. Drawing from Authentic and Inherent Nature:
My projects are deeply inspired by both the authentic nature around us and the inherent nature within us. This duality provides a rich source of inspiration and helps in creating works that resonate on a deeper, more universal level.
Spend time observing and connecting with nature, as well as introspecting to understand your inherent qualities. Use these insights to create art that reflects the true essence of existence. This approach can lead to more meaningful and impactful creations.
For those starting their journey, my advice is to embrace a multidisciplinary approach, challenge conventional perceptions of reality, and draw inspiration from both external and internal nature. These elements will help you develop a unique artistic voice and create works that transcend traditional boundaries.
