Meet Vice

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vice a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Vice, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

Easy, keep it moving. It’s like politics, you can’t please everyone, focus on your personal goals, and surround yourself with positivity. Remember your why, why is this important to you? Does it bring you joy? Are you passionate about what you do? If the answer is yes to the last two then that’s all that matters. At the end of the day other people’s opinions don’t pay your bills, and don’t let people’s insecurities throw you off your game. Keep it pushing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Frequently asked question, “What is your podcast about?”

Simple. The three C’s: Comedy. Community. Culture.

Comedy: Comedy isn’t just about laughter; it’s about perspective. It teaches us to find humor in the mundane, to see the absurdity in everyday situations, and to approach life with a sense of lightness and joy. Growing up, comedy shows/movies was a form of self care and at times a place to go to escape from reality. Life’s too short not to fill it with laughter.

Community: I’ve worked alongside community partners for almost half my life personally and professionally. Giving back is not just a responsibility; it’s a privilege and an opportunity to make a positive impact in people’s lives. For me, it’s about being the person I wish I had when I was younger, someone that’s not perfect but continues to grow each day.

Culture: Culture is the fabric of our societies, the shared beliefs, values, traditions, and customs that shape who we are and how we interact with the world around us. It connects us to our roots, our ancestors, and our heritage, giving us a deeper understanding of where we come from and who we are. Through culture, we find common ground with others who share similar backgrounds and experiences. I am proud to be a Filipino American.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

A few things I live by…

Make Mistakes- Be okay with making mistakes. It’s one of the most important qualities we can adopt in our personal and professional lives. Mistakes are an inevitable part of the learning process, and they offer valuable opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and improvement. Don’t be too hard on yourself, pivot and make your adjustments.

Be Authentic- Being your authentic self is about embracing who you truly are, without pretense or apology. It’s about honoring your values, expressing your thoughts and feelings honestly, and living in alignment with your deepest desires and aspirations aka do what makes you happy at the end of the day! If you’re goofy, be goofy. If you love comics, share your love for it! Just be yourself and you’ll attract the right people for you.

Keep Growing- It’s a powerful mantra for personal and professional development. It embodies the idea that growth is a continuous journey, a lifelong process of learning, evolving, and becoming the best version of ourselves. If this world was a garden, let’s not compare ourselves to other’s in the garden. Know that everyone grows at their own speed, a tomato won’t grow the way a watermelon does and that’s perfectly okay!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Yes, we would love to collaborate with others. Community over competition. Working with like minded people that are positive, selfless, and willing to help others grow personally and professionally. I think it starts with show us love, supporting the brand, and really rocking with us at the end of the day with no agenda. We can smell it a mile away!

A good quote I like to use regarding collaboration, “If you wan’t to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!”
