Meet Vicky Mo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vicky Mo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Vicky, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

If you’re the only one different in the room, you have something unique to give. Like your culture or your perspective. So own that.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m super proud to be part of a new campaign launch for The Asian American Foundation. For many of us, we have been made to feel like we don’t fully belong in either world, when in fact, we’re the best of both.

It’s a message of hope that feels especially needed today, in the face of rising hate directed at immigrants and Asian communities.

My parents never truly understood what I do. This piece was finally something I could show them. That was special.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think building up a certain taste level requires being a student of the craft. Look around, get jealous.

Get everyone to believe in the vision. But just because you can imagine it, doesn’t mean others can. So get good at making moodboards, pulling references, sketching… Whatever it takes to get the rest of the team on the same page.

Learn an extra skill that you enjoy. Whether it be crocheting or yodeling, you never know when it’ll come in handy.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Tell me they love me everyday. That’s pretty cool.
