Meet Vicky Sepulveda

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vicky Sepulveda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Vicky, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

It takes more energy being negative. So I choose to look on the bright side things. Being positive and choosing the high road is where I live. I used to be on a radio show in Austin, Tx our theme was “All Things Positive”

Think about it … wasting time on negative thoughts, on people or things that don’t matter,. It is time you will never get back. Choose the sunshine even if you are not feeling it. After a few minutes you will see the bright rays! Make it a good day change your perspective and it will change your life!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My dream is to publish a book. I always joke that my savings account are the domain names that I buy because I am going to publish a book one day. I am a creative and in my spare time I like to write poems, short stories and focusing on the bright side of life.

The best parts of my day are when I am Coaching a small businesses owners and empowering them through their entreprenurial journey.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Never be afraid of taking that leap of faith. Jump right into that new adventure, new job, new place. I had the opportunity to live in Mexico CIty as Marketing Director for a big cosmetic company. It was the best two years of my life. I left my family and friends in Texas but I also made new friends and I grew by leaps and bounds. After my time in Mexico City I came back to Houston, TX where I would have another big career with Bank of America another journey would begin in 1997 when I moved to Austin, TX to manage a branch at Bank of America I worked there for 10 years in various roles. I started to become very comfotable in Austin, TX and voluteered for Habitat for Humanity. I received many awards and had the opportunity to build a Habitat for Humanity house with Hugh MColl former CEO and Chairman at Bank of America .

Giving back my community is very important to me. One thing I learned early on in my career that volunteering can lead you to new paths, interests and opportunities. When I first moved to Austin, TX I didn’t know anyone so I started volunteering and through Bank of America I volunteered at the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. After I left Bank of America and moved to another company Transfirst I still continued to volunteer at the GAHCC and then joined their team as the Sr Director of Special Events an Initiatives.

Another opportunity was organizing a delegation 4 city tour for our members and elected officials in Mexico. I am still wondering how I did all the organizing of the meetings and meals, and some sight seeing tours but it was a wonderful experience. My love for Mexico is deeply rooted since my Mom is from Monterrey, MX.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My Dad and Mom both were very empowering. My Dad was a biomedical engineer and always ingrained my sister and me to be the best we can be and never stop learning. When I wanted to be on the drill team in high school. He encouraged me to tryout and practice dance. And Mom was always made sure I had all my costumes made in a timely maner.

After High School I tried out for the dance team and University of Houston and made the team. Best time of my life. The band and Cougar Dolls had the great experience of traveling to Tokyo, Japan and France so many great memories and experiences. University of Houston Cougar Band and Dolls gave me some amazing memories I still cherish today.
