We recently connected with Victoire Loup and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoire, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I’ve been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years, and it is truly one of the pillars of my mental health. I even trained to receive my 200-hour yoga teacher certification in order to deepen my personal practice. Sleeping enough, eating well, practicing yoga on and off the mat, spending quality time (with family, friends, oneself), and always planning ahead while leaving room for the unexpected — all of these daily habits have a major impact on my work as a freelance writer and culinary consultant.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I live between Paris and Los Angeles and I’m a food critic, culinary consultant, and cookbook author. Which means that not one day is similar to the next one! I help restaurants with their menu and communication, I interview chefs and write about culinary trends, I write articles, press releases and cookbooks, I appear as a judge on several tv shows… My past and current clients include Anne-Sophie Pic, Ludo Lefebvre, Francois Daubinet on the chefs side, and Airbnb, Cartier, Chanel, Pommery, etc. Even though I work as a freelancer (with my company In The Loup), I never work alone: I’ve grown up as the eldest of a family of six and love working with interns whom I train and teach everything I know.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I hire interns, I always look for three qualities: being organized, passionate, and efficient. Organization and rigor are the foundation upon which everything else will be built, it is key to be reliable and keep growing in this role each and every day. Being passionate and curious means there’s always a desire to learn, there’s no task to big or too small. And efficiency is more than ever a necessity in today’s world where we’re going to work remotely, at a fast pace and on different projects at the same time. I often tell my interns that these three qualities are more important than anything else for this role, even more than loving food or communications.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking for more passionate folks to join our team — right now, I’m working with five interns based in Paris. I hire part-time or full-time depending on the projects, anyone interested can send us a resume and cover letter!
