Meet Victor Parra

We recently connected with Victor Parra and have shared our conversation below.

Victor , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Growing up with a single mother and not much resources forced me to grow up faster than most kids. I learned at an early age that no matter how hard life can get, you have to keep going.

You have to stay positive and keep pushing forward. In the moment it felt like that was the only choice. Now I realize how important those moments are because it makes you stronger.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Victor Parra, an American professional soccer player and a Real Estate entrepreneur based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to my career in soccer, I’ve ventured into real estate, investing, and flipping homes, particularly in Silicon Valley.

I played NCAA Division 1 soccer at San Jose State University on a full athletic scholarship. While I was there, I double-majored in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management, as well as International Business, earning my bachelor’s degrees in both fields. I was honored to be the “Valedictorian” of my graduating class in 2017, delivering the keynote speech at the ceremony. This was a significant achievement, as I became the first-ever NCAA Division 1 student-athlete to accomplish this, and also the first Latino American to be chosen as Valedictorian in the university’s history.

After graduation, I signed a professional soccer contract in Portugal, and over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of playing for different teams around the world, including in Europe, the United States, and Asia. I’ve also had some time in the spotlight as part of the reality TV show Every Street United, which searched for the best street soccer players globally and aired on ESPN and Xbox Live.

On May 16, 2024, I was inducted into my high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame at Central Falls High School in Rhode Island, an honor that meant a lot to me.

While continuing to play soccer, I began focusing more on entrepreneurship as I realized that a sports career isn’t forever. In my free time, I’ve launched a soccer skills training academy for kids, and I also work as a motivational speaker, traveling across the U.S. to inspire others. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured in major news outlets like ABC News, NBC News, Fox News, and Telemundo.

I’m also working on an autobiography, where I’ll share my story—from my tough upbringing to overcoming significant challenges on my way to achieving my goals.

With over 100,000 followers across my social media platforms, I’m humbled by the support I receive from people all around the world, and I’m excited for what’s to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say some of the most important things in my journey have been:

-Positivity
-Resilience
-Self Belief

I believe these have been key to lots of accomplishments in my life. When things were not going my way,

I remained positive, resilient, and always believed things would get better with the proper steps/ actions. I always believed in myself to make it happen no matter what.

If you don’t truly believe in yourself then why would anyone else?

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One of my favorite books is “Think and grow rich” by Napoleon Hill. This is because it talks about different aspects in life that you need to become successful.

My personal favorite is when it talks about Desire. In order to be successful at anything you have to WANT it badly enough in order to overcome the obstacles that show up in your path. I can relate to this!
