We recently connected with Victoria King and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is the key to success in small business. Many of us will face challenges and barriers along the way. These setbacks should be be viewed as opportunities for growth. It is important to remain adaptable and learn from failures in order to thrive in business. The key to being able to pivot and embrace change is to seek insights from each project that will allow for improvement and growth for future endeavors. When I complete a design project I always reflect on lessons learned to apply to future work. Over time, I have developed intuition based on past experience that guides projects away from certain pitfalls. I constantly refine our internal and client facing processes to ensure we stay on track for success.
Another way to cultivate resilience is by maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Taking care of myself and my family comes first so I may be in the best possible position to make important decisions for my business and clients. Hard work is rewarded with plenty of rest and fun. It is important to arrive refreshed for client meetings and to allow ample time for creative work when preparing presentations.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I design homes for clients who want to live their best lives each day. I believe hard work should be rewarded with a beautiful well organized space to relax in. My goal is to take the stress out of home construction and furnishings projects by facilitating the process of design from conception to installation. I work closely with clients to establish goals and budgets, select and curate finish materials and furnishings, and deliver flawless turnkey interiors. I draw inspiration from the clients vision, and each project receives a unique approach that is custom tailored to the needs of the project. Myself and my team are dedicated to making the process of home design and remodeling easy for clients. We pride ourselves on our relationships we have developed with vendors and contractors as well. We work hard along side our industry partners to make each project a success.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Work Ethic-A robust work ethic drives productivity and leads to the development of efficient processes. It reflects discipline and commitment to excellence. Over time myself and my team have developed a supportive and respectful work environment where professionalism and dedication are the driving force. Good habits like punctuality, reliability and cooperation are important for developing a strong work ethic.
Integrity-Great projects are often the result of acting with honesty, integrity and accountability for one’s actions. This involves doign what you say you will do, owning up to mistakes and maintaining strong moral principles in all business interactions.
Grit-Grit is a combination of resilience, determination and passion that enables business owners to persevere through challenges and setbacks. Things may not go as planned at times, so its important to maintain focus on the big picture and stay the course despite difficulties. Remain calm when issues arise and focus on solutions. This mental toughness keeps projects moving forward even when the path is challenging.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for new contractors and vendors to collaborate with. Good architects are important to create to overall structure of a home and ensure functionality. Client collaboration is fundamental, and building strong relationships with new and former clients is key to my business. Builders and contractors execute the construction phase and we collaborate closely to prevent costly mistakes and ensure smooth implementation. Beyond this we often partner with other key team members such as product vendors, marketers, draftspeople, stylists or art directors.
