Meet Victoria Lowman

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria Lowman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Victoria, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
This question is my favorite because I have found my purpose multiple times. Purpose is a fluid thing in my mind but each purpose has pushed me to the next. With every discovery I have found a calling to expand the people I desire to serve.
My first calling, or purpose, I discovered at 17 when I took a job at a local salon and discovered the beauty industry and immediately fell in love with the service and encouragement it had to offer.
From there I funneled my career and found a calling to help fine haired women like me achieve their dream hair while maintaining/improving the health of their hair.
While that was successful, I built my Suite in the back of my salon and discovered my career blossoming with the ability to control the experience and environment in which I offered services.
My purpose shifted again when I discovered and fell head over heels with a historic building in my hometown. I was immediately overwhelmed with not only visions of bringing this beautiful structure back to life but creating spaces that other stylist could also become their own boss and run their business however they felt called to.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Hi, my name is Victoria Lowman. I am a hairstylist and salon owner, who is passionate about growing the industry in a constructive way that puts artist in the drivers seat of their own career. I have a passion for creating beautiful spaces and transforming, especially undesirable structures into the beauty hidden underneath.
I own Victoria Rose Studios in Louisburg, Kansas.
We are a highly motivated team of independent beauty professionals committed to excellence in guest experience. We are dedicated to continuing our education so that we stay current in our industry knowledge.

Our mission at VR studios is to create a luxury experience for all guests within a private studio furnished with only the highest quality amenities.

My goal was to create a hybrid experience for studio owners, by encouraging independent growth and a team feeling. We believe that success is personally defined an d each stylist should celebrate theirs!
We stay active in our community and participate in community events &fundraisers.

I hope to expand these efforts by building more studios and creating more opportunity for my fellow Beauty professionals.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Time management- This was by far the hardest skill for me to acquire and still possibly one of my biggest struggles. With that time management, even the simplest of projects can become overwhelming. The greatest thing I ever learned was I write down three things every morning, that I must do that day, and I do not allow myself to move to the next item until the first item has reached completion. The dedication to maintaining the order is essential to keep from procrastinating day after day.
If I find myself pushing a project off, I purposefully scheduled two hours a week for my “shit” tasks. So instead of constant dread of these tasks, I know there is just two hours a week. I must focus on them, allowing me to enjoy the rest of my time freely.

2. Self-efficacy- Self-efficacy refers to an individual’s belief in his or her capacity to execute behaviors necessary to produce specific performance attainments or simply believing you can and will achieve anything you truly desire. . Self-efficacy reflects confidence in the ability to exert control over one’s own motivation, behavior, and social environment. Having this deep belief in your own self has proven to be the key to driving dreams into reality.

3. Creativity- Thinking outside of the box. Believing that no idea is unachievable or stupid. Seeing the potential where others do not, will set you apart.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Always looking for great minds to collaborate with and grow ideas. Been actively working on creating a group of female entrepreneurs who are ready to take their careers to the next level
