Meet Victoria Pouncy

We were lucky to catch up with Victoria Pouncy recently and have shared our conversation below.

Victoria , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from being a black woman in America. There are opportunities that I had to sift through to be the person I am today. Not just going through this place we call home, multiple people have told me no, ignored me, and also raised their voices at me. I took all those interactions, remembered those people, and made my own opportunities. To me that what being resilient means, continuing even when you receive doubts and a ‘no’.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a curator, multidisciplinary artist and model out of Shreveport, Louisiana.

The services that I provide are art commissions, graphic designing ,art direction, project coordinator, and curation. I know there are thousands of people that are in a similar career path as myself, but I do think being a woman of color and an artist does set me apart from my counterparts, because being a woman of color I go through many obstacles that makes me become innovative, resilient, and patient with clients and the general public.

If i can get a group people to enjoy a moment, I accomplished my goal. Last event that I did independently as Nikol Art Productions is, on November 7th 2025. I curated a Rick & Morty themed art exhibit in my hometown Shreveport, Louisiana at the Shreveport Comedy Club. You guys just have to keep up with me to know what the next art exhibit being held.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I can give one of each: quality, skill, and area of knowledge, so that would add up to what impacted my journey.
Quality – be genuine person and have confidence in yourself and your product or brand.
Skill – Know your audience and make sure you either working on your skillset or mastering it no matter if its visual art, music, or clothing. trust in your skill
Area of knowledge – Take ‘no’ into a yes for yourself and the goal YOU want to accomplish, people will follow.

The advice I have for people that are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve, is just keep going. If you make a mistake learn from and become better. If you feel like certain people are not rallying around you, make your own lane and always stay positive.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed I literally I walk away, change my scenery, and take a moment. Sometimes that looks like a couple hours watching YouTube videos about art, a movie, or just sit with my plants. I do not have strategies when it comes to being overwhelmed because everyone is different. What works for me probably will not work for another individual, but what I always tell people, CHANGE YOUR SCENERY, that could mean anything for anyone. .
