Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victoria Simo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Victoria, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Having a sense of purpose for me comes from feeling connected to others. Sharing my passion for dance and fitness with our studio members gives me joy. I love building up confidence in others from the inside out. From a shy dancer starting her first class that makes it onstage to a timid Pilates client transforming into a confident rockstar after a month! Creating a community that makes a difference in people’s lives fills me up!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Over a decade ago, I opened Ballet and Pilates by Victoria after a career as a professional ballerina. Since I was a little girl, I always had big dreams of creating a studio welcome to all ages. Today, the studio has grown to 75+ classes a week in ballet, Pilates, Reformer and Barre. Without hesitation, our fiercely talented instructors bring the magical vibes that make it such a special space. The studio is buzzing with fun and energy! The minute you walk through the doors you are greeted with a hello and most likely a hug. We celebrate our clients! The studio has something for everyone! Mom can take a Pilates class while little one twirls in ballet class.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Kiddos are eager to play, dance and imagine. We help our tiny dancers find the joy of movement. Dance allows children to use their bodies to express themselves and use their imagination. We offer dance classes for mommy + me to age 14. I see girls look at themselves in the mirror twirling, skipping and leaping in the studio with so much confidence. My goal is for them to hold onto that inner confidence as long as possible.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
In 2020-22, I had a double mastectomy, total thyroidectomy, total hysterectomy, cancer treatment and a dislocated hip. I feel incredibly lucky I had a strong body ready to fight, and a supportive community to lean on. For 2 years, I could not be at my happy place. My vision was clear though, I had to get back to feeling strong and teaching at my happy place. I also knew I would never take moving my precious body for granted again. It is my mission to help spread awareness and education on breast health. The last 3 years, the studio hosted a Susan G Komen fundraiser walk and named a Top Fundraiser.
