Hi Victoria, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I come from a corporate background. I worked long days and long hours. This didn’t feel fulfilling. I wasn’t excited to go to work everyday. When I decided to change careers and pursue permanent makeup I found my creative side really blossoming again. It was such an amazing experience to learn this craft. I didn’t find my purpose until I had my first alopecia client. Alopecia occurs when your immune system mistakingly attacks the hair follicle causing hair loss. This client was 18 and she had been bullied most of her life about this condition. She no eyebrow hair whatsoever so I was able to create eyebrows with a combination of microblading and shading it was a huge transformation. She cried when I handed her the mirror after the session and when she left I did too. After that I realized how impactful this service could be for clients. I get to do what I love and help clients build their self esteem! This is really when I felt I found my purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the owner of Brow Beauty by Victoria. I specialize in permanent makeup. I offer microblading, powder brows, lip blushing, and permanent eyeliner. This is different from traditional tattooing, in that, specially designed pigments, tools, needles, and techniques are used to ensure these services create the most natural looking results. I love what I do! This is truly my passion. I always stay up-to-date in the news technology and innovation. I attend trainings about every 6 months to ensure I’m provide the best services for my clients. In the passed 3 years, I’ve built training programs to teach my methods and techniques. I take pride in teaching others my craft and everything I’ve learned throughout my time in this industry. I love being transparent with my trainees and sharing all of the mistakes I’ve made and what I’ve learned from them. I believe that is important in order to master any of these services.
During my time in the corporate world, I was involved in developing marketing plans from print to digital. This is what helped me tremendously in starting this business. In every training I put together thorough modules covering the best marketing tips for this industry. It’s been amazing to see artists complete my training and grow their own business!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I can’t stress this enough. Learn to listen to the client. When a client comes to me I know there is going to be, at least a little, anxiety about the appointment. We are tattooing makeup on them that will last years. I found when you allow your client to fully explain what they want to you give them to the opportunity to ask all the questions they have there is instant trust built. You want them to feel comfortable and trust you are going to achieve what they want.

Keep learning! There have been times where I’ve felt like an expert and then a new technique will come out and I’ll have to learn everything I can about it. Needle knowledge, the ins and outs of pigment theory, effects of medications on pigments, the learning never ends and it’s important to stay up-to-date in this ever evolving industry.

Knowing at least a little about digital and print marketing will help you when you’re starting your business. I came from a heavy digital marketing background and now most of what I knew is outdated. It’s important to understand how to reach your potential clients. You can be the best artist in your area, but if no one can find you, you’re going to lose a lot of revenue.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Neuromodulators have always been all the rage. Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin. I offer Botox, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. I’ve noticed newer techniques being used that weren’t a few years ago. Masseter treatment is great example. This was originally used as a therapeutic treatment for teeth grinders, but is now being used as a face slimming treatment. I believe social media is playing a large part in these trends. At the moment, I’m researching all I can on longterm effects, over large periods of time, of continuous treatments. I want to provide services that are best for my clients. This is has recently been my biggest area of growth.
