Meet Victoria

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Victoria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Victoria, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I am thankful to say that I come from a large Mexican-American family that is rooted in faith. While there are many stories I can tell to paint a picture of our background, the common denominator is belief in God. This faith drives our daily actions towards excellence. Faith has given me the platform needed to trust that I am walking the direction I am called and showing up with other’s best intentions in mind. For me a strong work ethic as a leader and entrepreneur means that I continue to pour my heart into my work and team. My grandfather modeled this to our family every single day while he rose at 4am to be out the door by 5am, only to return home around 2pm exhausted but blessed. As a parent myself it brings me a deep joy to see my oldest daughter rise to complete her tasks, prep for her school day, and still ask if I need help with anything! For my family our work ethic stands for unity and prosperity!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

On the daily I get to organize culinary arts classes all around San Diego County. The art of cooking from scratch has slowly faded from our culture while more and more often young people are left with no meaningful life skills to maintain their physical health through food. As a native San Diegan I want our county to have access to a program that has the potential to change the health trajectory of children’s lives. Sticky Fingers Cooking San Diego is on a mission to provide practical classes that allows students to cook, collaborate, and celebrate the creative art of cooking. Our classes begin as young as Kindergarten and run through high school.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. building relationships with colleagues. My business is relationship based and because has taken us a very long way.
2. time management- managing multiple departments and growth expansion, time management has allowed to continue to be a mom, friend, ministry partner, and business owner.
3, problem solving attitude has been one of the greatest shifts in the way I approach life and has made it so that no challenge we confront as a team is too great to be solved.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I am feeling overwhelmed I take a few deep breathes and pray. I remind myself that I can do all things with the help of Jesus and smile. Finally, I move! I get out of my office, take a walk, and listen to music. 100% of the time the overwhelming feeling disapates and I get back to problem solving mode.
