Meet Viktorija Bowers

We were lucky to catch up with Viktorija Bowers recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Viktorija, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Growing up in Croatia as the only child of a woman who endured so much hardship in her young life, I watched my mother overcome incredible challenges. She pulled us up from dark depths that, in my child’s mind, seemed like the end of the world—divorce, war, being a refugee, starting over countless times. Yet she never lost the will to keep moving forward, sheltering and loving me every step of the way. I inherited my resilience from my incredible mother.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

With over 20 years in the makeup business, I’ve worked on countless fashion, beauty, celebrity, and advertising projects. Living in NYC, I’ve always aimed to keep my makeup kit compact and easy to carry—a lighter load makes city life much simpler. Alongside my makeup career, I’ve also been known as an illustrator, frequently merging my two passions in collaborations with brands like Make Up For Ever, Urban Decay, and Oribe.

While many makeup artists develop their own product lines, I had a different vision: to create a company that combines two essentials in my career—makeup organization and art. After more than two years of development and every penny I had, along with my incredible husband and creative partner, Michael David Adams, Kit Ritual was born. Our first product, the modular, luxury Ritual Pro Palette, launched a year ago, and I’m proud to say it’s now available in major pro stores across New York, LA, Canada, and Europe.

Though we’re a new company, I hope we offer fellow pros a beautiful, art inspired product that will elevate their kits. I named our company Kit Ritual as a tribute to the ritual makeup artists have of cleaning, depotting, organizing, and pouring love and pride into our kits.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I often see myself as water—I take the shape of any vessel I’m poured into, yet my essence stays true. My adaptability is a core skill, shaped by the many fresh starts my mom and I faced during my childhood and later my adult life. This has made it easier for me to relate to people and embrace change, curveballs, and surprises. I adjust to people and situations and deeply value teamwork, dignity, and respect for others.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

The one constant in my life who has fueled my growth—not just as an artist but as a person—is my husband, my life and creative partner for over 20 years. Michael is an incredible painter, photographer, director, artist, and inspiring Renaissance man—not to mention the best dad our daughter could ask for. I wouldn’t be who I am without him; he was a key ingredient from the start. From creating my first business card to building my portfolio and website, encouraging me to take risks, listening to my dreams, and finally designing the most incredible palette from my rough idea, he has always been there. I feel incredibly lucky to have this support and sounding board for our visions.
