Meet Vincent Davidson

We were lucky to catch up with Vincent Davidson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Vincent, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

I just keep on improving my skills with each negative comment I’d receive in the past. When I first started really sculpting I had many negative comments about how I wasn’t talented, not to quit my day job …etc. But I kept pushing and focusing on the details in each product now, today, I never get a bad critique or it’s few and far between.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a professional portrait artist, mostly. I also work on small scale sculpting such as making custom 1:6 figures. I always had an interest in art at a young child, I was drawing Mickey Mouse at 3 years old and it was recognizable from what my mother told me. I kept that interest going into my adulthood and really pushed forward my style. I’ve had the same Art Mentor ( Suzanne Starr ) since I was 5 years old ( she was my art teacher in Elementary school and Middle School ) still to this day she and I are close and work closely. My work has been featured in art shows in Connecticut a couple times in which she organized. I post regularly when I have a work in progress I love for people to see how I start and where I improve along the way. My studio is Candy Corner Studios,( which you can find with that spelling on Instagram) I work mostly on Horror related art.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Never let anyone get under your skin when they critique you. Lots of people who do not do any form of art for a hobbie even don’t know what they are talking about. I only ever took advice from other artists to heart and they were never mean spirited about it. It genuinely helped me to improve my craft.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am definitely looking for other artists who are looking to collaborate and possible turn what I’m doing into something bigger. Working full time as a manager at my day job certainly takes a lot out of me, but having other artists to help keep me motivated with projects could definitely help. I’d love to get some real awesome things out there with other talented people.
