We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Virginia Martin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Virginia , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience is based on focusing on the positive things of life. It can range from the simplest things to the most significant. One of the things that I love it is the nature, food, keeping me active with sports and dancing , traveling, a good conversation with friends. When you are going through an uncertain time, you may tend to see things in a negative light. It is important to be aware of them first and change the way you think about it to move forward in a positive al helpfull way.
My resilience comes from the desire to move forward and find the meaning of my life. One live chosen and happy!. One of the things are saying to me is keep forward!.

One Lesson I learned of the life is dreams come true with dedication and persevering.

My name is Virginia Martin, I am a Spanish makeup artist with over 20 years experience in the fashion and beauty industry across New York and Europe.

I had a dream of continuing and expanding my career as a makeup artist in the US.

I didn’t think twice and jumped into the American world where once I was arrived I felt like a box of surprises, much more than I could ever imagined!.

I can share you that I didn’t speak English at all and it was very difficult for me to learn the language, to speak, to understand and to be understood but once here there was something inside me that told me this is your place.

Despite all the difficulties such as the language, making new friends, adapting to the country and the culture… It was worth it!.

I have always believed that you have to trust in yourself and understand that sometimes we can make mistakes but you have to move forward and learn from your mistakes and steps from life.

Following my instincts has been one of the things that has brought me the most joy and sadness in life. But what would a success be if you didn’t fight for it like a crazy?

In Spain I tried to establish myself as a makeup artist in some important international positions. I came very close but there was always another candidate selected and I couldn’t secure the position. I didn’t think twice I moved to New York to improve my English and returned back to Spain stronger to improve my position.

New York provides me a lot on a professional support. I was very well received by agencies where they offered me, publications, celebrities, events… soon after they offered me to work with celebrities, important magazines and events.

In fact, I realized that all being worth it and you have to trust in yourself!.

Now I have set up my own agency VM art beauty. A premium makeup and hair agency specializes in events and bridal beauty. I also work for talent and advertising agencies and I have my own clients.

I continue working every day to improve myself and give the best of my artistry.

I have a new project in mind but I can’t tell you anything yet. I have always thought that no matter what happens, keep going and little by little life will give you a regard. You have to be patient!

My friends help me to trust myself more and sport is key the keeping my mind healthy and strong!.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The tree most importan skills are, creatively, attention to details, understanding different skin types and face shapes, good communication , and stay updated to new skills.

Continue in to practicing , taking new courses or workshops, observing new artist that provide new insides. Stay update to new makeup trans.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents had always supported me in my decisions and it has been very important to me. I believe that parental support is essential for a child. It was much easier for me and it helps me feel more confident in my choices.
