We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vitalis Nwenyi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vitalis below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Vitalis with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
A good part of it stems from seeing my dad juggle various businesses and responsibilities even in the church, where i also started getting involved in from an early age – around 11yrs.
My dad’s one of the most disciplined and punctual people i know, a lot of my positive disciplinary mindset comes from watching and learning his way of doing things.
Now couple that with the fact that i started working a 9-5 job a few days after i turned 18 lmao, I’ve always had to deal with tasks way above my “age grade”, that in itself has helped me understand how to not just work hard like we’re often told to, but instead shifting the focus to working smart.
And yeah, juggling 2-3 jobs while still building my creative studio and career, I’m constantly looking ahead cause i see a lot of my idols like Ye, Virgil Abloh, Tyler the Creator, MF Doom, etc. these guys did not all have it easy, and I’m in no way trying to glorify the whole hustle and bustle of life, but i know that if i put my head down, discipline myself to ALWAYS follow my dreams and trust my guts, i know I’ll be up there in no time.
Many seeds I’ve planted over the years are already starting to grow…
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
This phase of my life is all about not just building but laying down strong foundations for all my ventures.
I’m Vitalis “Nwn” Nwenyi, creative director, filmmaker & entrepreneur. I’ve been building my studio – Samodox Studios – since i was 17, right now it has worked with 50+ creatives and major brands including Jameson Whiskey, Diageo, Palmwine Festival, Show Dem Camp, Lady Donly, etc.
Alongside building my studio, my friends and i decided it was only right to launch our community.
I gave it the name “The Th3rd Place”, the goal is for it to be a physical and digital platform for creatives from all walks of life and echelon to come together and mix into one pot of crazy creativity and vibrance, also very keen on using the platform to equip creatives with more business knowledge too, so they know best how to capitalise on their own handwork and have no one rip them off.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
number one thing is to not just be curious but to act on your curiosity, the day u stop being curious is the same day u stop growing.
next up, u have to find ways to discipline your mind and body. a lot of us have a lot of “potential” and thing we could do that could change our lives but we’re just not disciplined enough to work towards it.
patience, i learnt this so much growing up but understanding that things happen in due time will give u a sort of peace that cant be explained. what i mean in this case is that i know I’m bound to be in the same conversation with the likes of Ye, Virgil, Basquiat, etc. as a result i diligently continue to put in that smart work, trusting the process, might be longer than i want but i know I’ll get there eventually, bits and part of that star studded life is already showing itself
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
biggest ups to my dad, that man gave me and my siblings the gift of growing up in a healthy environment – i grew up in the United Arab Emirates.
growing up in a very modern and rapidly growing country really helped forge a profound love for globalization, co mingling with other races and understanding that deep down we’re all really one people, regardless of what land were born on top.
my parents gave me an early childhood that even tho was dotted with financial and interfamily difficulties, they tried their best to not just shield my siblings and i from the reality of things but actually raised us in a better environment whilst trying to constantly make sure we know who we are.
love em
